Supressed thoughts
Cora Crawley walked through the shop, looking at what foods had been imported from America, there didn't seem to be what she was looking for until she came across a shelf full of delicious treats that she hadn't seen since 1887 the year before she came to England. Pies! Real Pumpkin Pies! It wasn't that she didn't think Mrs. Patmore could make such a thing but the woman wasn't used to the recipe.English pies were more savory than sweet so Cora was going to make her grandmother's dressing and other foods herself, Violet be damned!
It was hard enough not being allowed to leave England to visit her family. She wasn't there for her father's funeral either. Robert knew how much she loved him but he was still grieving for his father so no one there thought maybe she'd want to go. As though the English were good at sharing their emotions and now she was forced to suppress hers. She let them out in the quiet and dark of her room, the nights Robert stayed away. He finally admitted his love but refused too remain with her all night, convinced it was not appropriate. He would willingly "do his duty" but sometimes he rushed and hurt her. She never told him because she didn't want him to feel bad or stop coming to see her.
She entered through the kitchen Courtyard, stopping to speak with Mrs. Patmore.
"How can I help, Milady?" The cook asked, eyeing Cora in concern. "Are you well?"
Cora smiled sadly. "Well enough I suppose, but I was wondering about something. As you know Lady Grantham will be joining Lady Rosamond in London tomorrow. Would you mind if I gave you some of my family receipts to try and make for dinner on Thursday?' She asked. I have already procured most of what you'll need and I'm more than happy to come done to help you cook since I am more familiar with them. Mrs. Patmore flipped through the papers Cora handed her. "Oh that's not necessary. I may not be used to some of these dishes but i believe I can make them with no issues. She saw Cora's frown appear. "But if you want to help anyway, you're more than welcome to Perhaps you maybe should warn Mr. Carson of your intentions?" Cora nodded, a smile back on her face. "Thank you so much!"
"You're welcome, Milady!"
