Second Thoughts

It was the night of December 23th, and the usual late-night windy beaches of Miami Beach were somewhat tame. Most people had been sleeping away, but others, such as Larissa Valiana, were wide awake. Larissa's head had been spinning with thoughts the entire week regarding her marriage to Aaron Bean. Tonight would be her last night as an unmarried woman. Her fiancé had proposed unexpectedly about two months ago and was in quite the hurry to marry the woman he had grown to love. Larissa turned over in her bed to face the other bed, where her maid of honor and twin sister, Piper Valiana, had been resting.

"Piper," Larissa called out.

"Shouldn't you be sleeping?" Piper turned over with a smile. "Tomorrow is going to be an important day for you and Aaron."

"Yeah," Larissa frowned.

Immediately, Piper could tell something was wrong with Larissa and propped her chin on her hand. She could tell that something was on her sister's mind, "What's wrong?"

"I," Larissa paused. "I am having second thoughts about this."

"About what? The marriage?"

"Yeah, all of this seems a bit rushed."

"Of course, it's rushed. You and Aaron were betrothed for less than two months."

"Do you think it's too late to cancel everything?" Larissa's voice cracked. Piper knew that Larissa was going to cry at any moment. She climbed out of her bed and laid beside Larissa, pulling her into a hug. Larissa began crying.

"It's okay, Larissa. There's no need to cry." Piper said.

"I don't want to marry Aaron. I love him, but this is all too soon," Larissa sobbed.

"It's never too late to turn things around. Just call Aaron, and tell him how you feel about this whole situation. I am sure he'll understand and push the wedding back."

"I can't do that. I don't want to disappoint him."

Piper pulled away from the hug and looked Larissa in the eyes, "Listen, if Aaron truly loved you, he would understand and listen to you."

"Are you sure? You barely even know Aaron."

"That is true, but that is my fault for never taking the time to meet him. If you decide that you want to go through with the wedding tomorrow, then I get to meet your amazing husband for the first time, and if not, then you and I are going spend the whole day together."

Larissa looked away from Piper, "I don't know anymore."

"Think about it. You have until tomorrow evening."

"That's not a lot of time. All of the guests will be angry if I cancel last minute."

"Don't think about what everyone else has to say. You have to think about yourself when it comes to these things. Remember what dad told you before he died?"

"Be true to yourself." Larissa quoted her dad.

"Exactly. Don't take those words lightly."

Larissa looked back at Piper with a small smile, "Thank you for talking with me."

"What is a twin sister for? We have to be there for each other."

"Yeah,"

"Now, get some rest. You can think about all of this tomorrow." Piper said and stood up from the bed. Larissa nodded. Piper climbed back into her bed and closed her eyes. It took her a few minutes to fall asleep, unlike Larissa, who didn't close her eyes even for a moment.
