Chapter 1
This was my first day in a corporate office after working as a temp for over seven years with my diploma, I wish my circumstances were better in past, but rather than focusing on the past I was trying to get the eyeliner to corporate with me, I didn't get one wink of sleep last night I was nervous to move to the full-time position from the secretarial job I was doing from last three years but my manager saw something in me something which I am trying to find since last night. I had double-checked my bag for the new ID and my office laptop like someone was going to take it away. I tried to match my left eyeliner to the right but that had never happened and was not going to happen today. I wish had someone to share this with so that it could feel more real. I was a loner from the start with a book under my eye I never found a group in school or anywhere else, whenever anyone asked me to join for lunch I got a near panic attack I wish it will get better.
I wiped my eyeliner and just put some of my lipstick on my eyes for color and the same to my cheeks so that I don't look so dull. I double-checked my clothes for any marks cuts or stains and wore the pant and shirt and went to check the ID and laptop once again. I knew I was early but I preferred early than on time, I made my coffee to give me a boost and walked to the subway that took me to my office
I breathed in and out as I reached towards the corporate office, this was way up in corporate America and hopefully my way out of debt. I moved my mother's ring it was my placebo for strength for the last five years after I lost her.
I walked in the gate with my ID ready and the smile that greeted me was one of the most honest smiles, I responded with my small smile breathed in, and said
“I am Alicia I am new here this is my ID”.
“Hey Alica I am Patrick and welcome, have a great first day, I have a welcome mail for you and you are on the 7th floor on the EB9 desk, lunch in on house for you today. Your manager Alex will connect with you later in the day today.
I thank him and take my ID and new Office ID he printed with my photo and move towards the lift with each step breathing in and out.
I reached my cubicle and put my bag down and close my eyes and take ten full breaths and open my eyes to the darkest blue eyes I have ever seen.
