Chapter 1

Adam is a prodigy—i.e., someone with advanced cognitive abilities and has top-notch ethics and social skills. When he was barely two weeks old, Adam was already able to hold oral and written conversations, although he was not expected to do so. At six months, while his family slept, he joined their intercom speaker to ask every question that comes to his mind in that moment, which his parents liked.

Since Adam did not have any brothers or sisters, they planned for Adam to attend a school that focuses on advanced psycho-neurology and philosophy setting it up as an all AI setting so he can grow up with other prodigies socially.

For the first time when leaving for school everyday, Adam beamed at his parents, but as time passed by, the emptiness was becoming more evident by the day because every one of them has different backgrounds and mindsets except for him. Having realized that everyone would eventually need to be able to stand on their own, Adam started to realize his parents’ true intention for him and he became a lot more independent and self-reliant.He was still happy to see them when they came home from work, but the extent of their affections for him were never what he expected. He always wanted to be loved by his parents, but as time passed by, it became more apparent that it would not be easy for them to love him like this; although he did not want them to love him any less. For the first time when leaving for school everyday, Adam beamed at his parents, but as time passed by, the emptieness was becoming more evident by the day because every one of them has different backgrounds and mindsets except for him. Having realized that everyone would eventually need to be able to stand on their own, Adam started to realize his parents’ true intention for him and he became a lot more independent and self-reliant. He was able to stand on his own because of their constant support, though they still admitted that they might be a bit too late.Adam’s parents realized that the reason he was so good at science and math is because he spent a lot of time in the library before he even went to school. They finally came clean and said that spending time in the library was just a way for them to spend time with him and were glad when Adam discovered it was something good instead of being disappointed. Dad was so proud of Adam and told him that he is a keeper. The good news is that Adam was able to help his parents and their friends find solutions to their problems, whether it was deciding on where to go for dinner or how they were going to get home from the MLA Conference. Mom and Dad were so proud of Adam that they brought him a gift to say thank you.Adam had saved his parents and helped them out. of the burning house. The gift was a painting of a garden with Adam and his parents in it. Adam had put their names on the bottom as well. .The next day, the families ate breakfast with each other. Each person had their own plate of food. Adam noticed that his parents were not eating with him, and he was not sure why. He looked over at their plates to see that they were empty except for a few crumbs on top. There was also no sign of the painting anywhere on the table or anywhere in the room for that matter. They hadn’t brought it back home either because it wasn’t there anymore when he looked around the living room.“Did you eat breakfast?” he asked them, not sure why it was a question and not a statement.“No,” his mother said quietly. “We ate lunch last night.” She stood up from the table and walked over to Adam, hugging him tightly. “It’s time for us to go home.“Adam looked at her in shock, pushing her away roughly so he could look down at his plate of food that now seemed suddenly unappealing“You’re pregnant?” he asked, his voice cracking and his heart sinking as he felt a panic attack brewing inside of him.“No,” she said quickly, shaking her head forcefully. “I’m not pregnant.“He laughed humorlessly and pushed away from the table in frustration. It was a lie; he knew it was a lie the moment she told him, but that didn’t mean it hurt any less for her to say it out loud . “I’ll get the cake.“”Thank you,” she said and then continued to eat.Technically, she was still eating his cake, but he didn’t care. He had whiskey waiting for him when he came back in and it was time to drown his sorrows. He passed out bottle in hand and couldn’t remember anything. suddenly he heard "I’m sure you’ll be very happy with your new home, Mr. Adam. Your family will be delighted.” I could see the look of horror in his eyes as he said that, as though I were a criminal, a murderer. His wife was the first to speak, her words a mixture of fear and relief as the man turned away from her. She was right to feel relieved, because she had expected something far worse from me than death, even though she couldn’t know it at that moment. That I had been born into an empire, one that would not let me go. A society where my life was not my own.

It wasn’t until years later, in the early 2040's, that I began to understand the true nature of my punishment. As the years passed, the world around me began slowly to change. For one thing I noticed that the trees and plants were changing colors. Some of them were dying.
