Chapter 1: Settling In

NO WAY!!!!!!!!” “Please, Please, PLEASE let me go! You have to! I’ll die if you don’t!,” Emmie says, referring to the ad for “Miss Ella May’s ALL GIRLS SUMMER CAMP”. “Fine, but don’t just pack junk...” says Ms. Jewel, Ella’s mother. “Yeah, yeah.” says Emmie, cutting her off. “Well, I’m already packed. Let’s go.” says Emmie, holding her luggage. “That was quick...” says Ms. Jewel. “Don’t forget to meet me at the church” Ms. Jewel. “Okay, now let’s go!” says Emmie, eagerly. In the car, Emmie talked about all the new friends she was going to make when she came to the question,“What if they don’t like me? What if they’re all older than me? What if they make me eat cold soup?” asks Emmie. Emmie was twelve years old with blonde hair and blue eyes, and if there was one thing she hated, it was cold soup. Especially with meat. “You’ll be fine, who wouldn’t like you?” says Ms. Jewel, stepping in. When they finally get to the camp after what feels like forever, Emmie gets out of the car and finds herself standing in the middle of camp being greeted by a counselor. Something about the camp made her feel different but she just couldn’t put her finger on it. She thought deeply about it. “Hi, I’m Counselor Smith. How do you do?” says the counselor, all of a sudden. “Well I’m good.” Emmie says, snapping back into reality.“Thank you for asking. Uh, would you mind showing me to cabin number nineteen, Counselor Smith?” says Emmie, shyly. “Why, of course! But you can call me Ari. Looks like I’ll be your counselor. We’re going to have so much fun! Dress up, paint our toenails, go shopping...” she trailed off. “Sounds like it.” Emmie said excitedly. “But right now I’m soooooo tired.” Emmie yawned. “Well, let’s hit the hay.” says Ari, walking toward the cabin. “G’night.” she says, climbing onto the bottom bunk. “Goodnight.” said Emmie. Emmie stared up at the ceiling. She wondered why there were no other girls in the cabin except for Ari.
