#1- Sensory Overload

Peter POV

The moment I opened my eyes this morning I knew today was going to be a terrible day. My head was pounding and all the lights were just a little too bright, not enough to set me off, but just enough to annoy me. I could hear the loud popping of bacon across the apartment. The worst of the noise was the traffic down below and the shouts of people in the morning in the middle of NYC. It wasn’t supposed to be that loud. I groaned as I got up looking at my clock and realizing I was going to be late if I didn’t leave right now.

As I ran out the door I yelled to Aunt May that I was leaving. Once I got down to the street I immediately put in my soundproof earbuds letting out a sigh of relief as the noise immediately died down. Then I ran as fast as Peter Parker could run, not tapping into my Spider-man speed but still running if not sprinting, and ended up getting to class right before the bell.

I sighed as I collapse into my seat Ned looked at me I usually wasn’t this late and he was concerned. Then he noticed the earbuds and nodded understanding immediately. Then Ms. Genus assigned a 66-word vocab assignment and said it was due at the end of class.

About 10 minutes later, She tapped me on the shoulder. I looked up a little confused, “I’m going to need you to take out your earbuds Peter.” With a sigh, I did what I was told knowing that today was about to get so much worse. As soon as I took them out the world got so loud every paper rustle, pencil scrape, and even every breath was like an explosion to my ears.

As soon as I got out of her classroom I stuffed my earbuds in my ears and headed to my next class. The rest of the day went around the same way with my teachers telling me to take out my earbuds once they notice and me suffering as a result. FINALLY! Finally, the day was over and I could head over to the Tower. Where I could calm my brain and actually learn the things that I needed in life, not stupid vocab words I will never use again or stupid math and science equations I already know. I sluggishly get into the black Audi that Happy drives, and he heads to the tower.

Happy POV

When Peter got in the car and wasn’t talking my ear off, as he usually does, I was immediately worried, I might not act as if I care about the kid but I do. Plus I knew Tony would get mad if I didn’t let him know of the situation so I closed the divider between myself and the quiet teen and called Tony.

Peter POV

When the car stopped at the tower I got out and grabbed my bag staying silent trying to keep from too many sounds reaching my ears. The ding of the elevator was at the perfect pitch to make I made my way to the elevator and FRIDAY immediately to me to Mr. Stark. As soon as the doors opened I knew that I couldn’t keep the sensory overload at bay any longer. Mr. Starks music was blasting from the speakers and the lights were too bright for my brain this was the last straw.

I fell to the ground trying to cover my ears and eyes at the same time.

Tony POV

I heard the door open and didn’t think much of it, then I heard a small whimper and a thud and got worried. I spun around and immediately spotted Peter on the floor, my eyes widened I immediately rushed forward. When I got to him he had already passed out, I yelled at FRIDAY telling her to turn off the music and get Dr. Banner. 3 long minutes later Bruce appeared and we immediately carried him to the med bay.

I sat outside the med bay thinking about the minutes before Peter got to the tower. Happy had called saying Peter was acting strange, I had thought nothing of it thinking it was just teenage angst. Now looking back at it Peter was not an angsty teen, how could I be so stupid?

Peter POV

I vaguely hear voices, “... Stark he should be fine…” “I’m still going… stay.”

I slowly fell back into unconsciousness.

A little while longer I’m fully awake. The room is dimly lit, I glanced at my surroundings. It was nighttime by the sight outside the window, and the next thing I notice is Mr. Stark asleep in the chair next to me.

I slowly sat up trying not to wake the sleeping man, but I was unsuccessful as I reached for the glass of water on the bedside table it tips and I can’t catch it. It clatters on the floor and Mr. Stark jolts awake. For a moment he’s frantically looking around trying to figure out where he is then his eyes snap to where I’m sitting up.

“Oh,” Mr. Stark said, “you’re awake.”

“How long have I been asleep?” I asked cautiously.

He glanced at the clock, “12 hours 30 min.”

My eyes widened. I hadn’t gotten that much sleep since, since well the spider bite.

“Do you know what happened?” Mr. Stark asks me, one eyebrow raised.

“Umm, I’m pretty sure I had a sensory overload. I haven’t had one since,” I look at the ceiling, “the first time in the cafeteria after the spider bite.”

He nods in agreement and understanding

I tried to get up, but Mr. Stark gently pushed me back down, “Nope. You are not getting up, you are going to rest,” He stood up giving me a signature listen to me I’m not playing look, “and you are not going to school today because it’s Friday and you learn more here than you ever do at school.”

I opened my mouth to ask a question but he was two steps ahead of me “And don’t say you need to go see May she already knows your here and that you aren’t attending school.” I closed my mouth and nodded.

“Soooo, can we watch Star Wars since I’m ‘resting’?”

“Sure kid sure.”
