Prologue; You Taste Like Lies
Lola stood just behind Gabriel, her eyes wide. Her sins have finally caught up with her, and she was paying in the only currency she had. Tears.
She swallowed as he slowly turned, and he gently nudged Liam who scurried upwards to his room.
A moment passed, and he just stood there, watching her, his brown eyes betraying nothing.
"Gabriel..." She started to say, flinching at how weak her own voice sounded.
He said nothing, then slowly started to walk to her, his hands tucked in his pockets. She forced herself to stand still, till he was close to her, his breath fanning her face.
It reminded her of everything, moments she would rather not remember now, or the guilt would choke her to death.
He gave a small sigh, then moved her hair away from her face. Her eyes closed, and her breath picked up as his fingers moved across the skin of her face, then slowly moved to the nape of neck.
Without a word, he leaned in, one hand cupping her waist, the other on the nape of her neck, and he pulled her in.
He stopped just before their lips met, and she could feel his breath, his heartbeat.
"Gabriel..." She said again, before he pulled her to him, taking her lips in his.
The tears rolled down her cheek fast and uncontrollable, her eyes closing as his lips moved against hers, the familiar warmth bursting in her stomach.
Slowly, he pulled away, then took a step back, taking all of his warmth with him. He brought a hand to his lips and slowly wiped it away, keeping his eyes fixed on hers.
"Now that I think of it, Lola...you taste like lies."
