Prologue
Third Person POV:
"Tell me what scares you the most in the world?" Lily asks as Lennox hangs his guitar on the hook. His hazel eyes gleam in amusement.
"Spiders, duh," he states like it was the silliest question he's ever heard.
Lily shakes her head. "Other than spiders. What makes a chill run up your back?" She asks again. This time she wants a real answer. She wants to know what makes his blood run cold.
He sits next to her and bites his lip in thought. "Probably someone close to me dying," he answers. She nods. When he realizes what he said he pauses to take a look at her to see if his words hurt her fragile feelings.
"Me too," she says in a whisper. Her brown eyes switch up to meet him. "It's even scarier when you're living it."
His cold hand latches onto her warm one. The hairs on the back of her neck stand at the connection. "Don't worry," he states softly. "I'll be here for you when the time comes."
Lily fights the warm tears running to the surface. "I know," is all she says.
