Prologue

The wind was howling it’s sad, somber song as I looked down upon the spirit. Her might was strong, and heart was fierce. I had needed a vessel for quite some time, and perhaps she was the one I had looked for to guide my people. My sister would be furious with my meddling, but my people needed it, and so did the spirit. With a final glance at the night sky that so bitterly held me, I embedded my soul and lifeblood into the girl, giving her a wolf so strong she could rival armies. She will be the Luna Queen, and she will keep us strong. - Moon Goddess

The night was cold, the air bitter as it stung my cheeks, water dripping from my damp clothes. I had failed to die, I had gotten all the way into the water, I had seen the darkness coming, I had embraced it, but then there was light and I was alive. I felt different, like there was an unspoken presence in me, tugging me forward, the exact direction I didn’t wish to go. There was a voice, whispering to me quietly, sweet, soft reassurance. I had nowhere to go, but the presence didn’t care. It led me to my mother’s house, a place I tried for years to escape, to no avail. In the briefest of moments I caught a formed word from the voice. Trust was what it told me, a beg, a plea, and an order. A sob ripped from my throat, I was at war with myself, and some deranged part of me wanted to go back the the hellscape of my life. With a shaking hand, I twisted the handle of the door, opening to a dimly lit hallway filled with paintings of my mother. Walking in, and took a breath and walked to the laundry room, a feeble attempt to grab clean clothes, and almost succeeded until I saw her silhouette, coming to me and demanding answers, in a blink there was a ringing sound and a stinging pain to match it. “You are not to go anywhere except for school” she snarls, my mother grabbing my wrist and throwing me in my scarcely decorated room, complete with a bed, clothes and a small mirror. Fear rushed through my mind, I had failed to go away, and she would make it so I paid. Peeling off my clothes I curled in the corner, not acknowledging the bed and resting my head on my knees, a defense position, protected by walls so nothing could sneak up on me. I was okay, but never safe.

Keegan- you must listen to me What? You are something special, something that I will protect with undying loyalty, but even I cannot protect you from yourself. What are you saying? I am saying you must trust me, as I will trust you. Over time I will reveal what I am, and therefore what you are. Can you protect me from my mother? I will try. But first, there will be one person, who will come from time and space and is yours, she is meant for you, you will know her as you look in her eyes. Trust her as blindly as I hope you will one day trust me. Okay- what’s your name. You know mine, it’s only fair I know yours. I am Neoma, ruler of the night and moon. There’s a lot to unpack in that sentence, so for now I’ll just take in your name. Neoma, it’s pretty. Thank you, I must leave you for now, but I will forever be with you, guiding and protecting you. The moon is a friend for the lonesome to talk to, but she is also a savior. Confide in her and she shall reward your trust. Farewell.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me.
