Chapter 1

prologue

Kai

Looking the motherfucker right in the eyes, both of which I’ve already made black and blue, I slam the handle of my Glock into the side of his head. Striking him right in his temple. “Let me guess, you thought because I’m seventeen, I’d be dumb and not check the bag.” Sam doesn’t reply because he can’t. I’m sure the fucker’s ears are ringing.

His eyes try to focus on me, so I do him a favor. I crouch and get right in his face. “I’m not sure what it is you’re trying to see unless you’re wanting to see the exact moment you’re about to die.” His dress shirt is covered in blood and when I look down at him, there’s a small part of me that admires him.

I mean, I got to hand it to the guy. Not only is he not speaking, but he’s taking my beat down like a champ. By now I’ve learned all about someone in these first few minutes. Don’t I have a wife and kids. I take care of my grandmother. I have to feed my friend’s goldfish. That last one is just as real as the others. I shit you not.

I still laugh about it to this day. An amused smirk spreads across my face as Sam stares up at me. “This is happening because if I would have taken a wad of these fake bills back to Crow, it’s exactly what he would have done to me.” And with that, I pull the trigger and don’t fucking think twice about it. I nod my head to Frank, and he knows it’s time to clean this mess up.

My plans for the night are a shower and pussy. Mainly Missy’s, we’ve been off and on for the last year. She’s the only one that’s been able to handle what I crave in the bedroom. When my phone buzzes, I see that it’s a call from my boss.

“Cancel your plans tonight. We have dinner and I have an announcement.” My stomach rolls at that. His announcements are never anything good. “Alright, can I at least grab a shower? I got Sam’s brains on me.” Crow lets out a deep laugh. “Okay, but let’s be real. Sam didn’t have any.” I can’t help but laugh along with him.
