Chapter 1
This is it, my bike just stopped. Out of gas, during a cold night. I knew this moment would come, but I wasn't prepared for it.
I searched for gas for the last few days, but wasn't able to find any.
Y/N: Great.
I mumbled to myself while getting off the bike.
I looked around. I was in the middle of a forest.
I know I'm probably just being paranoid, but I can't shake off the feeling that I'm being watched.
Not from the little hut in front of me, but somewhere from the trees.
I looked around, but couldn't find anybody. How am I supposed to find anybody anyways? This place is full of trees and plants. Easy to hide, hard to be seen.
Well, let's check out this hut, while I'm here. Maybe I'm the luckiest guy around and I'll find some gas. What was I thinking? Me? Lucky? What a joke.
I kicked the door in and heard growling in there. Okay, time to kill some walkers, I guess.
I pulled out my dagger. It's not the best weapon to have, but it was quiet and fast. It saved my ass on multiple occasions.
There he was. A male walker stepped out of the bedroom followed by a female walker.
I stabbed the first one in its head. It fell to the ground and the other one tripped over it and fell to the ground too, kinda funny.
I stabbed the second one in the head and moved through the house to see if they had something useful.
Nothing, except for some bullets. I dont really use guns, since I'm more of a sneaky guy, but I still take all the ammo with me that I find on my way, this time was no exception.
I went out if the house to see walkers walking up to my bike.
Where the hell did they come from? I could've sworn there were no walkers here.
Doesn't matter, I guess. There were only three, so it's manageable.
I kicked one in the knee making him fall down just to receive my dagger to his head. I stabbed the second one in the throat, pulled my dagger out again and stabbed him in his skull.
The third one came over to me, accidentally pulling my bike with him, making it fall to the ground.
It made a loud metallic noise on impact.
I quickly killed the third one.
I had to leave as fast as possible, noise attracts them, there will be a walker gathering over here soon.
I heard steps in the distance, so I turned around to see a walker.
Only one? Weird.
It didn't move, it just stood there.
I stepped forward, but stopped.
Something is fishy.
I'll rather keep my distance.
I pulled out my crossbow which was in one of my bags that was attached to the sides of my bike.
I got him in the crosshair and pulled the trigger, getting a headshot.
It fell down, but there was movement coming from the trees, so I reloaded.
Two walkers came out from the trees on each side. They gathered in front of his body that was on the ground. They didn't move, they just stared at me.
I don't have a good feeling about this.
I shot one in the head and reloaded.
Two of them pulled guns out and started shooting at me.
I ran behind the hut to take cover.
This is not right. They're not supposed to do that. I heard them coming closer.
I ran around the hut and shot one of them, making it fall down and drop its gun.
The other one ran up to the body and took the gun, but I reloaded fast enough and shot it too.
The third walker started firing at me, but I got in cover again.
If it keeps shooting like that, other walkers will be here in no time.
It stepped closer to the hut.
It was probably deciding from which side it wants to attack.
I heard its footsteps coming from the left so I aimed to my left, waited until I saw it and shot it once I did. Giving it no chance to react.
I went up to it and examined the body. A walker with a gun, huh?
I knelt down in front of it.
Wait a minute.
Something's wrong with its face, it looks like a mask.
I pulled on it and tore it off, revealing a man behind the mask.
There are people wearing walker masks? What's wrong with them?
I went back to my bike only to see there are dozens of walkers already heading to me.
Y/N: Fuck...
I cursed softly, trying to be quiet.
I can't take my bike with me. I wouldn't be able to push it fast enough, since it's pretty heavy.
I had two choices, well three to be honest.
I could run away, which is probably the smartest thing to do. I could try to fight them, which is brave, but foolish as a wise count once said. Or I could try to hide in the house and probably die, which is boring.
I really felt like running, but that meant leaving all the ammo and guns that I've found on my way here behind.
I guess I'll fight. I can do a heroic last stand and who knows? Maybe I'll survive.
I first started shooting them with my crossbow, I got about seven or eight of them that way. The problem was that I had to reload after every shot and they kept getting closer.
I pulled out a gun out of one of my bags.
I emptied one clip, another one and a third one.
Eight bullets per clip, three clips, all headshots, minus twenty-four walkers.
They just kept coming.
Y/N: Alright, time for a game changer.
I pulled out an assault rifle, that I once stole from a dead Mafia boss. I didn't kill him, I just found him dead with this in his hands.
Y/N: Say hello to my little friend.
I whispered with a smirk and pulled the trigger.
I emptied the magazine and changed it for another one to keep shooting them.
Empty again? Time for the third mag.
I emptied this one too, there was only one walker left.
It stopped moving and just stood there, staring at me.
Y/N: Okay, I'm not falling for that one again.
I picked up my crossbow again and aimed at it.
It just ran off to the right, disappearing in the woods.
Y/N: Alright.
I looked over to the countless walker bodies on the ground.
I still have some good amount of ammo left, so I pulled my bike back up on its wheels and put the guns back in the bags.
I was ready to start pushing it until I heard footsteps from the side.
I pulled out my crossbow and aimed in the direction where the steps came from.
No walkers this time, just two dudes.
They raised their hands.
???: Hey, easy there. We're friendly.
???: We watched you mowing down those walkers, that was so badass dude. I'm Louis by the way.
Y/N: You watched me all this time?
???: Yeah.
Y/N: Why the hell didn't you two helped then?
???: You handled yourself pretty well, you didn't need us. But we would've helped, if things went bad.
I kept aiming at them.
???: My name is Marlon, who are you?
Y/N: I'm just passing through. No need to worry about me.
Marlon: We want to help.
Y/N: I don't need help.
Marlon: But you're out gas, right? In the middle of the forest. There is nothing nearby. We searched the area.
Y/N: I'll find something, I always do.
Louis: You already did, you found us. Well technically we found you, but that doesn't matter.
Marlon: Trust me, we searched every inch of this area, there's nothing. There are barely animals out here for us to hunt.
I lowered my crossbow.
Y/N: So what do you propose?
Marlon: Come with us, we have a little community. They will accept you with open arms.
Y/N: I don't think I'll fit in your group.
Louis: Oh trust me, they will love you. Especially Vi.
Y/N: How many of you are there?
Marlon: Why do you wanna know? You wanna rob us or something?
He asked with a chuckle.
Y/N: Nah, Im just trying to find out if you're trying to lure me into a trap.
Louis: No man, we wouldn't do that.
Y/N: So you're just a group that has no problem taking in strangers?
Marlon: We lost two of our people recently. We could need someone that can help us out a little.
Y/N: I'm sorry for your loss. Anything in particular you need help with?
Marlon: Just some casual things, hunting, keeping walkers away from the school-
Y/N: School?
Marlon: Yeah, it's called the "Ericson's Boarding School". It's our "hideout" if you can call it that.
I nodded.
Louis: You'll love it. I promise.
Marlon: So what do you say?
Y/N: I guess I can check it out.
Marlon: Good, follow us.
I followed them, while pushing my bike.
Marlon: If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Y/N: I'm good.
Marlon: It's not far from here, we'll be there in a couple of minutes.
Louis: We're always trying to come back at dawn. Nobody wants to walk around out here during the night. We stayed out longer today and I'm glad we did.
Y/N: Why not? It's easier to hide and be undetectable during night.
Louis: Maybe, but I'll probably shit my pants while walking around out there in the dark.
Marlon chuckled.
A few minutes passed and we stood before a gate.
A kid was guarding it from a post above.
Marlon: Hey Willy, open the gate.
Willy: They're back! Open the gates. They even brought a new guy.
The gate was opened and we entered.
???: Why have you been away for so long? Who is that guy?
Marlon: Calm down Brody, everything's okay. This is Y/N.
Y/N: Hey.
Brody: You're a fool to come here.
She said before turning around and walking away.
Marlon: Ignore her, she's just paranoid.
Y/N: Is she?
He looked at me.
Marlon: Yeah...she is.
Louis: Come on, you have to meet the others.
I looked forward and saw some people. One of them was cooking while a girl stood next to him, the other one was writing something, the third guy was playing around with a knife, not paying attention to anything.
There was a kid who was drawing something, all alone at a table.
I looked a bit further to the back, to see a blonde girl watching me at the front door of the school building. She leaned against the wall with her arms crossed, still looking at me.
Louis put his hand on my shoulder.
Louis: Let's go, shall we?
Y/N: What about my bike?
Louis: You can leave it here.
Y/N: Alright.
I left the bike and picked up all four bags that were attached to it.
Louis: Uhh, where do you wanna take them?
Y/N: Wherever I go.
Louis: But you-
Marlon: It's okay, we'll give you your own room, you can store it in the closet.
I nodded.
Marlon: Alright, everybody listen!
He announced loudly, gaining the attention of everyone.
Marlon: This is Y/N, he's a part of our group from now on.
A few of them nodded, others started whispering to each other. The blonde girl still just looked at me. Did she even blink?
The girl from earlier came back to Marlon.
Brody: We need to talk, now.
Louis: Come on, I'll show you to your room.
I looked over to the spot where the stalker girl was, but she was already gone.
Louis: You ready?
I nodded.
We made our way into the building and took the stairs to get to the upper floor.
There were a lot of rooms here.
He pointed at one of them.
Louis: That one's for you.
Y/N: Thanks.
Louis: No problem, I'll go back to the others, we'll play some games, you can join if you want to.
Y/N: I'm a bit tired, I'll join you guys tomorrow.
Louis: I'm counting on it man, have a good night.
Y/N: You too.
