Chapter 1
I was curled up on my bed, completely lost in a novel on my phone, when the door swung open. My twin sister, Yvonne, breezed into the room like she owned it.
"Yvette, do you remember Jay and Kay?" she asked, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
I lowered my phone and thought back. "Yeah, I remember them. Back then, those guys were obsessed with strawberry ice cream." I couldn't help but let out a small laugh at the memory.
"I know, right?" Yvonne laughed along with me.
I set my phone face-down on the bedside table and sat up, curious now. "So, what's the deal with the 'Ice Cream Boys' all of a sudden?"
"They're back," she announced, plopping herself down on the edge of my mattress.
My eyebrows shot up. "Since when?"
"Since early this morning. Apparently, Mom and Dad are already planning a huge welcome party for them and their family. It's been five years since they've seen their best friends, the Wilsons."
I sat up straight, the weight of a social event already pressing down on me. "So, when is this party?"
"This afternoon at three," Yvonne said, already springing back to her feet. "I'm going to go find something to wear." She waved a hand over her shoulder as she disappeared back into the hallway.
"Gosh," I sighed, falling back against my pillows.
~ Yvette's narration ~
My name is Yvette, 17 years old, and in this town, that name carries a lot of weight. My parents are among the wealthiest people in the area, which means our lives are rarely ever quiet-and they are never simple. I have an identical twin sister, Yvonne. When I say identical, I mean we are mirrors of each other in every way-from our wavy blonde hair and bright blue eyes down to the shade of our pink lips. There is truly no way to tell us apart. Even our parents and teachers get us mixed up. The only thing that saves us from total confusion is the jewelry we wear: a pair of custom bracelets our mom gave us, each with our names, Yvette and Yvonne, etched into the metal. Oh, and also another difference is our voice, I have a cutie voice and Yvonne has a... Maybe girly voice? Well That's it, but with that you have to listen hard for you to differenus.
As for our personalities? We're like Barbie and Albert Einstein merged into one person. I almost forgot we also have a brother Ren, who is three years older than us and he's in the university.
I had actually planned to spend the afternoon at the movies with my best friend, Jessy. But now that the "Ice Cream Boys" and their parents are back, I know my own parents will be over the moon. Family loyalty comes first, so I had to pull out my phone, call Jessy, and break the news that our movie date was off.
I can practically hear you wondering: Why the "Ice Cream Boys"?
Well, back when we were kids, we all lived for ice cream. The catch was that our parents only ever allowed us a single scoop. But those boys? They were different. They would inhale three or four scoops a day. If they didn't get their fix, they'd go absolutely loco and start behaving......acting like literal infants. I can only hope they've outgrown that particular habit; I don't think I could survive the embarrassment a second time around.
~ Yvette's POV ~
By the time I made my way downstairs that afternoon, the house had been completely transformed. Streamers and balloons occupied every corner, and a massive banner was draped across the room that read: Welcome, My Dear Friends.
"Oh gosh," I muttered to myself, already exhausted by the scale of it. "I wonder how long this is going to last."
I fidgeted with my name-carved bracelet, sliding it nervously around my wrist.
"Oh, Yvette! There you are. Where have you been hiding?" my mother, Mrs. Anderson, asked as she bustled past.
"I was just in-"
"Never mind that," she interrupted, her eyes scanning the room. "Where is Yvonne?"
"I'll go find her," I promised.
I retreated back upstairs, checking the rooms that faced the lush backyard garden. Finally, I spotted her. "There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you."
Yvonne looked up, startled. "Oh, Yvette! What's wrong? Is something happening?"
"Mom is looking for you," I said, catching my breath. "The party is about to start."
"Let's go, then," Yvonne replied. We headed back down the grand staircase together, moving as a matched set toward the dining room.
