Chapter 1: Our First Miracle
I was only seven years old when it happened. It was just a regular day when my mom asked my sister and me a simple question: “Do you want to visit Grandpa today or tomorrow?” We said today. We had no idea that our choice would change everything.
If we hadn’t gone that day, we never would have seen him alive again.
If we had chosen tomorrow, it would have been too late.
Looking back, I am so incredibly grateful because we made the right decision. It was truly our very first miracle.
When we reached his house, something felt wrong. My grandpa was stuck in bed and couldn’t get up. He couldn’t eat or get out of bed, and I could tell he was in so much pain. My mom pushed us inside the main house to keep us safe while she went into his room. His room was separate, outside the main house, and she stayed there tending to him for more than an hour.
When she realized she needed help, she called her brother and his wife. They came quickly and helped wash his sheets to clean up. Afterward, he was lying on the bed with a piece of cloth covering his middle. My mom ran out to buy diapers for him, but when she rushed back, she saw the look on her brother’s and his wife’s faces.
She knew right away.
She knew he was almost gone.
She ran into the room. As she was going inside, she quickly searched her phone for the name of a Christian worship song and turned it on. She placed the phone right on his head.
Then she completely broke down.
She screamed, scolded, shouted, begged, and cried, calling out to her dad.
It was so scary for me.
I didn’t know what was happening.
My sister and I were just kids, and we were completely freaking out.
They called the ambulance right away. The house was actually quite famous and well-known in the area, but surprisingly, the ambulance did not know the location and couldn’t find the house. That delay gave my mom more time.
Mom continued to shout and scream and pray. She told my grandpa that he had to hold only Jesus’ hand.
“You cannot hold any other hand; you must hold Jesus’ hand!”
While she was praying, she noticed that his face and his body were still pink, which was a good sign. Only one line on his nose was yellow, so she knew he was still listening to her. She continued to pray and shout. My uncle and his wife were not Christians, but my mom didn’t really bother about them; she just continued to call out to her dad. It went on for almost an hour before the ambulance finally arrived and the medics took over.
