Summary

Five girls. Five personalities. One beautiful disaster. Fatimah (the sane one, forced to be leader), Chima (fierce but secretly soft), Wony (elegant and dramatic, whose life falls apart whenever Alice appears), Naila (shy and lazy, always the victim, but surprisingly creative), and Alice (the chaos magnet of 90% of the problems and 100% of the laughs). They never chose to be friends. But fate (and Alice's antics) brought them together. Five Girls. Because the craziest friendships make the best stories.

Chapter 1: The Indigo Prank

The living room of Fatimah's apartment was bathed in dim, amber light from a single floor lamp in the corner. The usual chaos of five girls sharing a Friday night had settled into something quieter, the kind of comfortable silence that only comes from years of friendship.

Alice sat cross-legged in the center of the rug, her eyes squeezed shut with theatrical intensity. Her usually bouncy, mischievous energy had been replaced by something eerily still. The room seemed to hold its breath.

"I... feel a different energy here tonight," Alice said, her voice dropping to a deep, resonant tone that didn’t sound like her at all.

Wony paused mid-motion, her perfectly manicured fingers frozen above her phone screen. She had been checking her reflection in the dark glass, as she always did, but now her attention was fully captured.

"Alice? What are you doing?" Wony asked, her elegant eyebrows furrowing.

Alice's eyes snapped open, but they were unfocused, staring at something beyond the room, beyond the girls huddled around her.

"I'm not Alice," she intoned, her voice carrying an unnatural weight. "I'm... a vessel. A bridge between worlds. I can see the past... and the future."

Chima, who had been nursing a cup of tea since the horror movie they'd watched earlier, tensed. Her sharp features had softened into wariness. The trauma from that jumpscare was still fresh, and her guard was up.

"Alice, this isn't funny," Chima said, her voice carrying that warning edge that made everyone listen.

Fatimah, seated in her favorite armchair with the practiced calm of someone used to managing chaos, folded her arms. As the group's unofficial leader, she'd seen Alice's pranks come in many forms. But this one felt different.

"What's your goal here, Alice?" Fatimah asked, her tone measured but firm.

Instead of answering, Alice's arm shot out, her finger pointing directly at Chima with unsettling precision.

"Chima..." Alice's voice echoed strangely. "I see a dark shadow following you. But there's white light protecting you. It comes from someone you love."

Chima's hand flew to her shoulder, as if she could physically feel the presence Alice described. Her skin paled slightly beneath her usual confident glow.

Naila, who had been half-hidden behind a large cushion she'd dragged onto the floor, felt Alice's gaze land on her next. She shrank back, her round cheeks flushing a deep crimson.

"Alice..." Naila whispered, her voice barely audible even in the quiet room. "Don't scare us..."

"Wony," Alice continued, her head swiveling with mechanical precision. "I see a stage. And failure. Be careful with your next song choice."

Wony's perfectly composed face crumbled. Her mind flashed back to last week's performance: the moment she'd forgotten the lyrics in the middle of the chorus, the way the audience had faltered in their clapping, the humiliation that had kept her awake for three nights straight.

"How could she know about that?" Wony breathed, her voice trembling.

For the next ten minutes, Alice escalated her performance. She moved around the room with jerky, unnatural steps, switching between voices; a child asking for someone to play with, an old woman whispering warnings, a young girl laughing hollowly.

Naila clutched her cushion like a shield, her shy nature making her the most vulnerable to the creeping dread. "Please stop," she whimpered from behind Chima's protective frame.

Alice made her way to the window, her movements stiff and puppet-like. She pressed her palm against the cold glass and smiled, a smile that didn't reach her empty eyes.

"She's there," Alice breathed. "The woman in white. She's smiling at you, Fatimah."

For the first time, Fatimah felt a prickle of unease crawl up her spine. She was the rational one, the skeptic who always saw through Alice's tricks. But something about the way Alice said it made her doubt herself for just a moment.

Still, she pushed the feeling down. "Alice, this has gone far enough. Stop."

Alice turned from the window, her smile widening into something unsettling. "I'm not Alice. I'm a window for those on the other side."

Wony was on the verge of tears now, her elegant composure completely shattered. Naila had wrapped her arms around Chima's waist, hiding her face entirely. Even Chima looked ready to throw her tea at whatever spirit might be possessing her friend.

Fatimah stood up, her patience finally reaching its limit. "Alice, I'm serious. If you don't stop right now, I'll—"

BIP BIP BIP!

A loud, jarring alarm cut through the tension like a knife. The sound came from Alice's pocket; specifically, her phone.

Alice flinched, her entire body jerking as if shocked. Her hand dove into her pocket with practiced speed, and she pulled out her phone, her eyes wide with panic.

"Oh, shit," she muttered, her voice back to normal: chipper, playful, entirely Alice.

On the screen, a notification blared in bright red letters:

"WARNING: 'Fake Spirit Channeling' app is currently running. Tap to stop."

The silence that followed was absolute.

Alice froze. Her mysterious smile vanished, replaced by the unmistakable expression of someone who had been caught red-handed. Her eyes darted around the room, searching for an escape that didn't exist.

"Hehe... um..." Alice laughed nervously, her usual sparkle dimming under the weight of four murderous stares.

The fear on her friends' faces transformed, morphing into something far more dangerous: righteous fury.

Chima shot to her feet, her tea sloshing dangerously in its cup. Her face had gone from pale to flushed with anger. "ALICE! So this was just an app?! Some stupid phone app?!"

Wony's lower lip trembled. "I almost believed you! I was imagining myself failing on stage again, and it was all a prank?!"

Naila peeked out from behind Chima, her shyness replaced by a rare flash of frustration. "Alice... I almost peed my pants. For real."

Fatimah let out a long, slow breath. She pressed two fingers to her temples, massaging the headache that had bloomed behind her eyes. "I was this close to calling an exorcist, Alice. This prank was too far. Way too far."

Alice scrambled backward, her hands raised in mock surrender. "But... but it was fun, right? I mean, you should have seen your faces! Especially you, Wony. You looked like you'd seen a ghost!"

"That's the point!" Wony shrieked. "You made me think I was seeing one!"

The punishment was swift and merciless.

Alice would be treating all four of them to steak dinners for an entire month. Thirty days of premium cuts, sides, and dessert. And as if that wasn't painful enough for her wallet, she would be cleaning Fatimah's entire apartment by herself, no help and no shortcuts.

As Alice stood in the middle of the living room, surrounded by her furious friends, she couldn't help but let out a small, sheepish laugh.

"At least the app worked," she mumbled under her breath.

Four cushions hit her in the face simultaneously.

That night, as the girls finally settled down: Chima still grumbling, Wony reapplying her makeup, Naila curled up on the sofa with her favorite blanket, and Fatimah shaking her head over a cup of chamomile tea. They couldn’t stay mad for long.

Alice's prank may have crossed a line, but it was undeniably, infuriatingly her. She was the chaos that kept them on their toes, the laughter that broke through their serious moments, the troublemaker who made life anything but boring.

And as Fatimah watched her best friends bicker and laugh and eventually forgive their resident disaster, she knew that no matter how many pranks Alice pulled, they would always be Five Girls.

Even if Alice's next "spirit channeling" resulted in a very real haunting of her bank account.
