Beginning
She woke up to the sound of thunder loud enough to shatter her sleep. Gradually, she opened her eyes, resisting the urge to linger in bed. The soft sheet beneath her, the cozy, warm blanket over her and her pillow- the cherished talisman of comfort that she loved dearly- which gave her the feeling of his presence, his scent and his warm hands wrapped around her lovingly, all conspired to keep her in the bed. In the past few years such moments had been quite rare, when she could steal a few extra minutes of sleep from her hectic schedule. Those stolen five minutes after snoozing the alarm, which often gets turned into a blissful half an hour were something she had craved for a long time. Today, she found herself in the heaven she had yearned for.
A quarter of an hour slipped by with her still lingering in bed, until at last she willed herself to leave that cocoon of comfort. She opened her eyes, sat slouching for a moment, then stretched recharging herself to enter the present. The wall clock struck six. She turned her head sideways, gazing at the empty half of the bed, her eyes longing for someone. Just then, her phone buzzed with a text:
"Gd morning, Madam. Missing me? I know you do. Returning by this evening." A smile crept across her lips.
Happily, she got out of the bed, washed her face, and glanced at herself in the mirror. She loosened her tied hair, which had been held firmly yet messily into a bun, and ran her hands through the long, wavy strands, admiring them as if they were breathing and alive.
She returned to bed, caught hold of her phone, and replied with naughty smirk:
"A very good morning, Mr.husband. Not missing you at all."
Soon she sent another text with sparkling and longing eyes which read: " Return soon Pratik."
She then went to the kitchen and prepared herself a cup of coffee, just the way she loved it-- aromatic and strong enough to kickstart her day.
She poured the drink into her cup and sat by the window of the living room, watching raindrops stream down the glass pane. The trees and plants, in the garden swayed to the rhythm of the wind gusted with the downpour. The spectacle was both fierce and soothing, much like the thoughts swirling in her mind.
"How fast time flies," she mumbled, thinking of those days when they had almost decided to part ways and walk separate paths. Yet, here they were now — together — dreaming of a whole lifetime in each other’s company. She finished her coffee, lost in her world of thoughts, until she realized that nearly half an hour had passed.
After getting ready, it was time to decide what special thing she could do for her special one.
