Chapter 1
PICKING UP WHERE PART 1 LEFT OFF…
MINE continues directly after the events of Dante’s Angel (Part 1), but this time, we follow Enzo and Mila’s story.
If you haven’t read Part 1 yet, I highly recommend reading it first to understand what happened before this story begins. ❤️
ENZO
I pulled away from the warehouse with one hand resting loosely on the wheel, finally back inside my fucking car. About time. I took one last drag from my cigarette before lowering it toward the open window. Through the windshield, I could still see them standing near the warehouse.
Dante was there, still looking at me. The asshole stood exactly where I had left him, shoulders stiff, his expression already suggesting he was finding something new to be pissed off about. That hadn’t changed.
My gaze shifted beside him. His sister, though? The corner of my mouth pulled up before I could stop it. Mila was still standing there. Fucking gorgeous. My eyes stayed on her for another second, taking in the way she stood with her weight shifted slightly to one side, her attention still somewhere in my direction even though she was clearly trying not to make it obvious.
And that little smile she had tried to hide when Dante warned me to back off? Yeah. I’d seen that. I leaned back into my seat, tapping my thumb against the steering wheel as her name ran through my head again.
Mila.
Even her name sounded good.
Dante could glare at me all he wanted. He could fight me about it too. I didn’t give a fuck. When I wanted something, I usually got it. And right now? I wanted her. I wanted his sister.
My grin widened as I flicked the cigarette through the open window.
She’d be mine.
I’d make sure of it.
But getting my car back still didn’t make up for everything else. Especially Sofia. My jaw tightened as I glanced at the warehouse in the rearview mirror.
Sofia was too close to Dante’s world now. Guns. Deals. Men who didn’t ask questions before pulling triggers. Exactly the kind of shit I had spent years keeping away from her.
And now she was standing beside Dante like she belonged there. Like any of this was fucking normal. That pissed me off more than I wanted to admit.
Sofia had always made her own decisions. I knew that. I had never been stupid enough to think I could control her. Didn’t mean I had to fucking like those decisions. Especially when one of them involved Dante.
I looked into the rearview mirror one last time. He was still there. So was Mila. The tension in my jaw eased, and that grin found its way back onto my face.
Dante was still an asshole. His sister definitely wasn’t.
This was going to be fun.
I wrapped both hands around the steering wheel, pressed my foot down on the gas, and let the engine roar. Then I tore down the road.
MILA
The sound of Enzo’s engine ripped through the warehouse lot. I turned toward the noise just in time to see his car shoot toward the exit, the tires gripping the pavement as he accelerated like leaving normally would somehow offend him.
The man apparently couldn’t even drive away without making a scene.
For one brief second, I caught the side of his face through the window. That stupid smirk was still there before he hit the gas harder and disappeared down the road.
I kept staring at the empty exit for a second longer than I should have.
You’re really fucking beautiful. What’s your name?
My lips pressed together as I shook my head slightly.
No. Absolutely not.
I turned away and folded my arms across my stomach, trying to push his face—and that annoying grin—out of my head. Enzo was attractive. Extremely attractive, actually, which was irritating enough on its own.
But he was also Sofia’s brother. My best friend’s brother. And apparently involved in enough illegal shit to shoot a man in the middle of a warehouse and look more annoyed by the man talking than by the fact that there was now a body on the floor.
Then there was Dante.
My brother.
And those two already hated each other. Two arrogant, stubborn assholes who looked like they would rather shoot each other than admit they could stand being in the same room together.
Yeah.
We were not doing this.
I turned back toward the others, and every thought about Enzo disappeared the second I looked at Sofia.
Marco was still lying on the floor.
Dead.
Sofia stood a few feet away from him, pale and completely still. Dante had one arm wrapped firmly around her waist, keeping her close while she stared anywhere except at the body.
I walked toward her, studying her face as I got closer.
“Sofia? Are you okay?”
Her eyes slowly found mine. She let out a shaky breath and dragged one hand through her hair, her fingers trembling slightly.
“I need to process what the fuck just happened.”
Her gaze flicked toward Marco before immediately moving away again.
“I shot someone.”
For a second, nobody spoke.
Then she lifted one hand vaguely toward the body without looking at it.
“And my brother finished it.”
She rubbed both hands over her face before letting them fall at her sides.
“What the fuck is wrong with him?”
Dante’s eyebrows lifted slightly.
Sofia turned her head toward him. “Does he do this all the time?”
“Your brother?”
“Yes, Dante. My brother. The one who just killed someone and then complained because the guy was annoying.”
Dante glanced toward the doors Enzo had disappeared through, his jaw shifting once before he looked back at her.
“I’m starting to think that’s just his personality.”
Sofia stared at him for a moment before pointing directly at his chest.
“He’s worse than you.”
Dante looked genuinely offended, his brows pulling together.
A laugh almost escaped me.
Nate pushed away from the wall behind us and looked between Sofia and me, his expression turning more serious.
“Actually, I still want to know why the fuck you two followed me in the first place.”
I looked at him.
He gestured around the warehouse. “You could’ve both gotten killed today.”
Dante’s expression immediately hardened, his arm tightening slightly around Sofia.
“And that would’ve been your fault for sharing your location.”
Nate frowned. “How was I supposed to know they’d actually follow me?”
Sofia slowly lifted one finger and pointed directly at me.
“It was Mila’s idea.”
My head snapped toward her.
“Seriously?”
A tiny smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.
“She was bored.” She glanced at Nate. “And she missed you.”
Nate’s entire expression changed. A smug grin spread across his face as he placed one hand dramatically over his heart.
“You missed me, Mila? I feel special.”
I rolled my eyes.
Great.
He was never going to let that go now.
“Enjoy the moment. It’s the only one you’re getting.”
His grin only widened.
Before he could say anything else, Dante’s attention shifted toward Luca.
The change in him was immediate. His shoulders straightened, and the softness in his expression disappeared behind that controlled look he wore whenever there was something that needed handling.
“Call the second buyer. Tell him we found his car.”
Nate glanced at him. “The buyer who threatened your loved ones?”
Dante gave him a flat look.
“Yes. That buyer.”
His gaze shifted toward the recovered car farther inside the warehouse.
“Have it completely checked before it leaves. Engine, tracker, interior, everything. Clean it, fix whatever needs fixing, and make sure it’s exactly how it should be before we hand it back.”
Luca nodded once. “I’m on it.”
“And call the third buyer too. Same goes for him.”
Luca gave another short nod.
Dante’s gaze moved toward Marco, and his face hardened instantly.
“Get him out of here too. Clean everything up.”
Luca glanced toward the body before nodding again and moving toward Marco, who lay motionless on the warehouse floor.
Dante pulled Sofia a little closer against his side, his hand settling firmly against her waist.
“Then we get the fuck out of here.”
My gaze drifted toward the warehouse entrance one last time.
Enzo was long gone.
Good.
That was good.
Because whatever that look between us had been, whatever that stupid wink had done to my stomach, it didn’t matter.
Enzo was trouble. Dante already hated him. Sofia was my best friend.
And I had absolutely no intention of becoming another problem in whatever fucked-up relationship these two families were apparently building.
Yeah.
We were not gonna do this.
Still, a small part of me wondered when I’d see that stupid smirk again.
