I liked the story. Well written, nicely paced. It does remind me vaguely of another thriller that I've read (ex special ops guy running a charter boat service) but it's very much with the times. The trap at the end was cute, although the protagonist was taking a chance that Gerard wouldn't shoot him in the back of the head. Also, he didn't notice the cop cars in waiting when he came in, which was sloppy of him.
All in all, nine out of ten for plotting, ten out of ten for atmosphere. (Also, nice touch regarding the guy who couldn't swim).

Okay, I'm a die-hard Pratchett fan (I'm intending to cosplay him at an upcoming convention) and that was all kinds of awesome. I own (of course) The Last Hero, and I reckon you got the personalities of the characters just right. And of course, adding in 'the writer' without ever naming him was very good indeed.
So yes, that story gave me a very warm feeling inside. You did a good job at covering his writing style as well; I could see, hear and feel the story as it unfolded.
In short, kudos. You just made my day.
