Short But Thrilling

There's a feeling you get when you read something great. You are at the edge of your seat, you're bitting your nails and turning pages almost faster than you can read them. A sense of danger suffocates you, urging you to find out what happens next as quickly as possible yet in the end all that remains is the bittersweet feeling of knowing, yet not knowing, that truly the story is over. How will the surviving characters live with what they had just experienced? Did these characters deserve their ending? Is there a sequel I can read to patch the hole that now lies where my heart should be?

“Mama” is nine chapters of excellent writing I didn't regret reading. The plot is magnificently paced and is wrapped up in the span of a single day. It is a magnificent read for anyone who lacks a queasy stomach and has a tolerance for well-placed gore and hightened tension.

NO REGRETS

I don't regret signing up for this contest, even if I learnt of the results a lil (a lot) too late. There were no unnecessary delays and it was pretty straightforward. It's a great way to find great books to add to your library, even if you don't win.

Thank you for creating the Mysfic Awards.

Incredibly Poetic

A couple chapters in and I was almost sure that it wasn't right for my taste. A couple chapters later and I was wrong.

Everyone is poetic, it put me off at first because it was hard to imagine anyone talking like that in real life. Ah, but this story is fiction, I remembered, so I began to read it like fiction.

The Exit Plan is a beautiful, poetic, thought-inspiring novel set in Cape Town. Underneath all the booze and cherry-red Mustangs, it's about three eighteen year olds in love. It's about the recklessness of youth.

Will and Tristan are (to varying degrees) in love with the same girl. Chantel and Tristan are a beautiful mess together. But everyone (including the side characters) is just trying to accept themselves and making attempts to understand what exactly love is.

The story gives me Call Me By Your Name vibes—it's romance and poetry galore—especially with the whole first chapter there to foreshadow the disaster that is to come.

I'm really enjoying the story, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

[In some places, there were tense switches(from present to past). Some thoughts in italics were in past tense too instead of present, but that's all that broke my immersion... Aside for the Poetry, lol. Thanks for writing such a great book, Author]

Not A Slow Burn

Unique. The idea behind the story is unique: a boy who can tell if a person is close to death through music. The romance hits you quite quickly, like a sucker punch where you were expecting to be tickled. Obvious secrets are outed as soon as possible, confessions are exchanged in the blink of an eye and suddenly we've got a relationship.

Maybe it was a bit rushed, maybe it wasn't, but romance isn't what I came for. I came for the mystery.

What does it mean when a person has no life song and no death song? Are they dead, alive, or something in-between?

I can't wait to see what else the author has in-store for Ryker and Porter—other than being cute, playing piano and avoiding bullies.

I'm actually stoked to see Porter get good enough to accompany Ryker to the talent show, and glad to have started reading this book♥

A Very Good Start

I'm only seven chapters in. It's still too early to make guesses but I'm hoping for a thrilling story of a fledgling witch who doesn't know how much influence she holds over the supernatural world around her. Personally, I feel that Evie is too trusting—but there is not enough backstory available to confirm (or disprove) this. She seems at peace with the knowledge of the supernatural world, somehow familiar yet unfamiliar with the paranormal subtleties all around her. She doesn't express fear at the possibility that a lot of the monsters lurking in the dark corners of centuries-old fairy tales could end up in her reality and it's really interesting seeing her fumble through it all with the conspicuousness of a freshly-birthed fawn.

I can't wait to see how the plot develops and I sincerely hope that there won't be a love quadrangle...

Thank you for writing, Author.
Can't wait for the next chapter♥

An Interesting Premise

As interesting as I find the plot of the story, the pacing is too fast. Even though an entire household was slaughtered I felt nothing for them though I 'knew' that I was supposed to. I know nothing more than the fact that our main character loves her parents and has a sort of 'spidey sense' but there was a lot of telling and not enough showing.

Anna was by far the character I had the most attachment to and her death didn't faze me. Not one bit.

These first chapters felt more like a flashback or a prologue, maybe if we knew our main character more, they would have had more emotional impact, but as it stands, I feel that I would be able to start the story at chapter 5 and still enjoy it very much, the story of a young woman out for revenge, wishing death on the royal family and all that.

I can't wait to read the future chapters, for all I've said (it is a review after all) you have the uncanny ability to hold a reader's interest. So kudos to you, Author.

Keep on writing ♥
