A Story For All Ages

Drew is creating a masterful series that has everything readers young and old will enjoy. This story is action-packed, and the suspense will keep you turning pages. This is a completely original idea and the author does a wonderful job of getting the reader bought into this reality she's created.

One of the strongest elements here is the characterization. There are two MC's, and they are so unique and both have their very own voice. I never had to read the chapter titles to see who was talking because it was very obvious from the tone, thoughts, and actions. This applies to all of the supporting characters as well. All are very well fleshed out and seem like real people.

Humor is another strong element that makes this story even more entertaining. The author adds well-placed jabs and jokes throughout that will make you laugh out loud but also makes the characters come alive.

But this humor does not take away from the sometimes chilling predicament the characters face.

I could feel the hair on my neck raise at some of the creepy scenes. There is definitely a real villain here, and they are not one to be taken lightly.

Overall, this is a very entertaining read that also gives the reader some real truths along the way. It is a well-written book that I would even allow my youngest pre-teen to read, but the story is complex enough that I truly enjoyed it myself. Kuddos to the author for such a great job! I can't wait to read the second in the series.

An Interesting Idea

I think the premise of this book is interesting and shows some promise. The idea of a master sorcerer of sorts rescuing a slave girl and making her an apprentice is endearing. The MC, however, comes off a bit robotic. While he saves her, we see very little empathy for her situation and pain. The girl, on the other hand, is a very innocent and lovable character.

There’s a few opportunities I see so far. The simplest is some grammatical and typo errors throughout. Those are easy to fix. Secondly, some of the paragraphs are very long and could stand to be broken up. During the 3rd and 4th chapters the prose drug a bit. Maybe some cutting and refinement would help. The last thing I will mention is the witch that was added suddenly into the narrative to take care of the girl. She came into the picture out of the blue. Even when the MC would think through his plan along the way she wasn’t mentioned, at least that I can remember. There just wasn’t enough natural progression to her introduction, and it came off as a last minute add.

Overall this is probably a good story that just needs further refinement.

A Masterfully Woven Tale

Not only is A Silent Game of Spies highly entertaining, but it is also brilliantly constructed. This medieval tale is chalked full of the most colorful characters who all have a distinct role to play in the imminent war that is on the horizon. While there are a lot of moving parts to this story, I never felt overwhelmed with information, on the contrary, each chapter adds to the overarching story being told. The chapters are short and concise (after the first which introduces the story), while the characters in each are so unique the reader has no problem picking up on whose tale is being told. There is such a nice cadence throughout the book, as the stories of each character begin to collide with each other. The writer creates such intrigue with each subplot that a reader just has to know what happens next. There are several heroes in this book you can't help but cheer for, while there are plenty of villains that will make your skin crawl. Davis has mastered the art of character development and that's what makes this story one you don't want to miss. My favorite character is Selby, a young and inexperienced queen who soon proves herself to be worthy of the crown she inherited. With her character and many others, there is a realness that is tangible. The reader is shown both their strengths and their weaknesses, and this intimate look at their lives not only allows the reader to really get to know each one, but it also prompts them to empathize with them. This is a masterful tale that is well worth anyone's time.

Such A Sweet Love Story

In her novel, Another Place To Call Home, Gomes treats her readers to an uplifting and innocent love story that is truly unique.

As the story unfolds, one can’t help but fall in love with Aruna, who is a young girl coping with the reality that she will soon marry a man chosen for her by her family. The readers get to experience the serendipity of Aruna’s feelings as she takes a long but exciting journey to her new home. Throughout the book the descriptions are beautiful, and make you feel like you are actually in Malaysia. Overall this is a great work!

The Fire Seal

In her novel, The Fire Seal, Heasley has conjured up a magical tale of epic proportions. The reader can't help but fall in love with the MC, Dialla, as she discovers who she is, and tries to master the gifts she possesses. The story is so well written that the reader actually feels like they are there with Dialla as she fights her way through a very grueling first year of wizard school. We see her grow from a typical, selfish teenager, to a young woman who truly cares for others and is willing to sacrifice her wants for their needs. This is the first book in its series, and it does a great job of setting the stage for the many adventures to come. This is one that is well worth the read!

A Unique Experience

Family Honor stands in a category all its own. Within this short tale the reader finds gut wrenching pain coupled with overflowing love and grace. Graham has woven together what seems like true stories of individuals affected by drug use/addiction in one way or another. He does a fabulous job of painting his characters in a way that makes them genuine. With his sharp and authentic dialogue, he really captures the moments he is depicting. Though this can be harsh at times, it is true to the story, and true to the message of his work. As I read, I couldn't help but imagine this idea being transformed into a playwright, where a capable cast could really bring the tale Graham has masterfully crafted to life. Great work! Keep writing...

An Adventure Like No Other!

One thing is for sure...RShifman has a new fan! In Dark Waters and The Maiden, he takes us on a journey akin to the classics. His descriptions are vibrant and concise, in that they give the reader just enough information to paint this new world inside their heads, but not so much that it bogs down the story. His keen sense of character development produces heroes and heroines who are not only lovable, but very real, and with that, flawed. There is an overall theme here of faith and love that is constant but certainly not overbearing. In its many layers this story is both light hearted, and sombre. Shifman is not afraid to deal with heavy issues, but his goal is never to cash in on shock value, but rather, to explore hard topics in a tasteful and helpful way. This is a book that I will encourage my teenage sons to read, and that pretty much says it all...

The Words Dance

Marvy uses words like a musician uses notes. Her words are perfectly placed to make the reader not only hear how she feels, but also empathize. The poem Life paints a true but melancholy picture of our current state, and it forces the reader to re-evaluate their priorities, but not in a way that is shaming. Her words inspire the reader. My favorite in this collection was Divine. It encompasses the idea that there is something far bigger and more meaningful than our day to day. These are true masterpieces and I'm looking forward to reading more.

A Perfect Read for a Young Audience

Hildegarde of The Bees is a coming of age story about a young lady discovering herself. Along the way she meets two very genuine friends who help her at every turn. While spending a year with a distant but loving relative, the MC Hildy discovers she has special gifts. These gifts have ties to her diseased mother, and as the story progresses we find out more and more of what Hildy can do.

One of my favorite aspects of this story is the relationships Hildy builds along the way. The author does a great job of making her audience feel the love between them, and it is endearing.

The character development is strong, especially for the targeted age group, and the drama and excitement ebb and flow throughout. It seems the author has set herself up for a sequel as readers will want to know what adventures Hildy will be off to next. Great work!

Refreshing and Original

Greenwater has created a unique thriller that is so realistic it could be about your next door neighbors, or even yourself. Her main characters are so raw and real that you will feel like you know them.

The original plot is presented in such a mysterious way that the reader can’t help but want to know more. The entire premise is intriguing and not one you’ve ever seen before.

The prose and descriptions throughout are succinct and powerful. They set the mood for the story perfectly.

Perhaps my favorite element thus far is the character, Simon. He is very endearing with his quirks and his genius.

All in all, this is one I’d definitely pay for to see how it ends. Great work!

A Story That Needs To Be Told

Goodman has created a beautiful concoction of truth, love, and grace in this brave short story. Not only is this a story people need to hear, but Goodman's talent sums it up well within believable and endearing characters, an honest storyline, and the flawed human condition.

The MC is humorous, but this doesn't distract from the serious subject matter tackled in this book. He's only a teenager, but he articulates his dilemmas well throughout. My most favorite part; however, are the supporting characters. The overall question the book asks is answered in how they love and accept the MC for who he is. The question: Does Jesus love homosexuals? The answer in life and in this story is a resounding YES! For God so loved THE WORLD, that He gave His only Son!

The one opportunity I saw, is to maybe clean up the language and content a bit. This would make the story available to a much larger audience. As it stands it should be 18+. This could easily be done, and I promise it wouldn't take away from the magic you've created here.

Such A Creative Concept

In his novel, The Dreamweaver, KDWebster asks the question, Is it possible another world exists just beyond our dreams? This novel is not only thought provoking, but it is also very entertaining. The main character, Destiny, is a funny but loving teenager who seems like anyone else her age during the day, but as she sleeps she becomes a fighter in an elite force in a world where war is looming and she is the only remedy for peace. I truly enjoyed the way KD weaves the two worlds together. His characters are distinct and very real. They are all fleshed out well. The prose flow beautifully throughout, and I could literally see the scenes in my mind’s eye. My favorite element, without giving too much away, is the timid relationship between Seven and Destiny. Their interactions are so sweet and innocent and you can’t help but root for them. This is the first installment of the series and I for one am looking forward to what’s next.

An Adventure Worth Taking

LeClair has created an epic adventure full of heroes, in every sense of the word. Her writing style flows so beautifully and every word purposefully paints the scene brilliantly. It's so refreshing to see a main character who stands above reproach and has the integrity to do the right thing, no matter the cost to themselves. Roseleen, the heroine in the tale, is a strong-willed and independent young woman thrust into a quest beyond her years and experience. She surrounds herself with several very capable and authentic friends, who all give up everything to help her succeed at every turn. The most endearing element of this story is the true virtue behind the tale; to put the good of others before yourself. This truth is dripping off of the pages of Hollow's Charge, and one can't help but fall in love with the story, and all of its characters. This is one I would highly recommend to anyone who loves adventure, magic, and the greater good. Excellent work!

A Wild Ride Worth Taking

In his novel, And The Frog, Andrew takes his readers on a colorful adventure full of dry humor and brow raising surprises. There is a brilliance in the author’s style of writing, with a cadence and tone that bode well for such a tale. One of my most favorite elements are his characters. They are as colorful as the story itself, and no matter the odd circumstances they face, they always remain constant and true to who they are. Their interactions are genuine and true to life, even in the most fantastic plot twists. This story flows very well and it’s hard to put down once you start. I highly recommend the adventure. A Beauty Indeed

When I found this book, I was expecting a fun and different take on its namesake, but what I discovered was so much more. This work possesses a very original plot, with characters that have so many dimensions that they practically spring to life. The main character, Grey, is a true heroine who doesn’t take herself too seriously. While she certainly has confidence in her abilities, she isn’t afraid to poke fun of her own frailties. This makes her not only a lovable character, but someone worth emulating. But the author doesn’t stop there. She’s created a cast of unique characters that one can’t help but love. I think one of the things that makes them work so well is the strong sense of family engrained in each one of them. The values of love and loyalty run deep through this story, and this makes it quite an inspiring tale. But even if the touchy-feely stuff isn’t your thing, there is enough action packed into this book to make anyone’s heart race. Overall, this is a well written tale, and I for one am anxious to see how it ends. Excellent work! Keep writing.

Truly A Great Find

In his novel, Fragment of Destiny, Gesek has created a spectacular world full of mystery and intrigue. His descriptions bring this new world to life, but in no way bog down the narrative. In fact, this novel has the perfect combination of both heart racing action and heart felt moments. Though their world is different physically, the characters in this story deal with the same troubling issues that plague us today. This really helps the reader relate to and empathize with them. The story follows three young people as they grow into adulthood. In their world this means attending Academy, and ultimately finding their destiny, which, in most cases, is predetermined. Tess, the main character, is an independent, pistol of a girl. Though flawed, she has this innate drive to fearlessly stand up for and protect those she loves, and this makes her a very endearing heroine. All in all, this is a smartly done science-fiction work, brimming with enough action and suspense to keep the reader constantly guessing what's next. This is one you need to check out.

Taylor has absolutely created a masterpiece! In her novel, The Descendants, she includes vampires, but this should no way limit the span of her work. This novel is completely original, with a truly inspiring plot, and characters so real you will feel like you've known them forever. This is an action-packed adventure, so well written and flawless, that it will be hard for anyone to put it down until the heart-stopping end. Taylor has beautifully crafted a story laced with a higher purpose. Throughout, there are overarching themes of unconditional love, forgiveness, and redemption that will speak to the heart of even the most cynical critics. The main characters, Aurora and Gabriel, are flawed heroes, desperately trying to live out their full potential and purpose. As you travel though peaks and valleys with them, you will find yourself cheering them on as they take on a foe that would make the strongest among us quake. A Lasting Impact

Sometimes you read a book, and it's so powerful it leaves a lasting imprint on your mind. This was one of those books for me. Raw and real emotion pours out of the MC through the entire story, as the reader witnesses what seems like first hand experiences of a young woman growing up during the Vietnam era.

As I read, I felt like I was watching history unfold through the eyes of someone who was actually there. Throughout the story we see the heartbreaking impact the war had on so many, while also rejoicing in the healing power of love and friendship. Parts of this story brought tears to my eyes, while others, like the televised draft, made my breath catch in my throat. Overall, the author's smooth writing style, coupled with her ebb and flow of emotions and action, make this a book that is hard to put down. Excellent work!
