CHAPTER 1 REVIEW

"CHAPTER 1 Plot Clarity & Pacing Clarity: The setup is excellent. We see Emma’s "ordinary" world (the bookstore, the Corolla, the hungover mornings) contrasted against the "extraordinary" world she is drawn to (the masked influencer and the club Jessica describes). The "inciting incident", the follow-back, is a fantastic hook. Pacing: The pacing is well-managed. You take time to establish Emma's internal monologue before bringing in the high-energy characters like Jessica. The chapter ends on a high note that creates an immediate "need to read more" feeling. Minor Confusion: There’s a brief mention of a news report about "two more bodies." As a reader, I’m wondering if this is just background flavor to show LA is dangerous, or if it’s a plot point that will connect to the "Truth_or_Dare" account later. It’s a good "breadcrumb" for a mystery. Character Development & Relatability Emma: She is very relatable. Her self-deprecation ("average," "book-nymph") makes her sympathetic. The detail about her "radioactive" mac and cheese and the 90s rom-com ritual is a perfect character beat. The "Virgin" Trope: You handle this well by making it a source of teasing among friends. It feels like a real social dynamic rather than just a plot device. Joey & Jessica: They feel like distinct personalities. Jessica is the "wild" foil to Emma’s "quiet," and Joey’s flirting provides a nice "safe" romantic option to contrast with the "dangerous" online man. Emotional Engagement Internal vs. External: You’ve done a great job capturing that specific kind of loneliness, the feeling of being "background noise" while watching everyone else live "perfect" lives on social media. The "Follow-Back" Moment: The adrenaline Emma feels when she sees the notification is palpable. The transition from the "invisible" girl to the "center of a comment section storm" is a great emotional payoff for the end of the chapter. Structural Integrity Tone: The tone is consistent, modern, slightly cynical, and edgy. The "Burbank Bodies" News: Be careful with the placement of the news report. Since it's sandwiched between "dry eggs" and "Instagram scrolling," it can feel a bit like "background noise." If it’s important to the plot, you might want Emma to react to it just a tiny bit more to show it’s registering in her mind. Dialogue: The banter at the bookstore is very natural. It sounds like how people in their early 20s actually talk to each other. Strengths & Weak Areas Strengths: The Hook: The "Truth_or_Dare" mystery is a 10/10 hook for this genre. Voice: You have a very "cinematic" writing style. I can easily visualize the scene shifts. Sensory Details: The "smell of garlic breadsticks" in her hair from a past job is a fantastic, grounded detail. Weak Areas: The "Looking in the Mirror" Trope: Mentioning she knows she’s "a little pretty" while looking in the microwave/mirror is a very common trope in romance. Since your voice is so original elsewhere, you might consider showing her "averageness" through her interactions instead of a literal reflection check. The Stepfather/Car Details: This paragraph feels a bit like "exposition" (explaining facts to the reader). You might be able to weave the fact that her stepfather pays her rent into a conversation later rather than explaining it while she's in the garage. Great work so far! Masked kink ... yummmy

"The story is sooooo good. It’s really exciting. It’s dark, kinky, sexy, with a deadly mystery and finally sweet. The characters are amazing. I love how Teddy is changing for his love. I love how Emma is coming out of her shell. I love all the kinky, hot sex. Highly recommended. Even with this open ending is perfect, whole (curios about your continuation still)."

Worth the read!

"Great story. At first I was worried that it was going to be a rip off of "Lights Out" but it glided into a different atmosphere and became its own story. Loved the sec scenes, and the characters. It does have its choppy moments, but the details were smooth. There are quite a few grammatical errors but idk if it's a language barrier? "

Perfect Spice

"This book is incredibly well written. I’m only on chapter 5 but I feel hooked, the book is definitely spicy, leaving you wanting more. I think sometimes spice is badly done and it ruins the book, but this is far from that, the scenes are incredibly well written and flow wonderfully. I’m intrigued to read more!"

Great story!

"The storyline is fantastic! The way the author describes things, you can almost watch the video in your mind. They are fantastic at capturing emotions, silent communication, and other nonverbal cues. The only drawback is the typos. They aren't everywhere or even consistent. A few misplaced spaces ("sh esaid" instead of "she said"), a few wrong pronouns in context, a couple of places where the correct word was type into an incorrect one. They don't detract from the overall story, but they slow the read down, making your brain figure out the "puzzle" before you keep reading. "
