The Fool

It would be the first of its kind and ever will be... at least in this universe. The universe, of course, ever expanding wouldn’t even dare mettle with the business of a “some-kind-of-matter” floating in the vastness of emptiness, which is in all intents and purposes, could be its own gut, or liver or what have you.

I digress. Let me introduce myself, dear reader. I have no name as I am simply what takes you on the adventure.

What do you mean where I am in the story!? I AM the story, you imbecile! What’s that? You wish me to get on with it? Well if you’re in such a hurry, why don’t you tell me how I should tell the story? After all, why would you listen to a piece of rock floating in this vast nothingness!?

Well... yes, perhaps I should have opened with that, shouldn’t I?

I do apologize, reader, if I’ve misled you. So allow me to begin. Although anyone in their right minds would wonder why in the cosmos would anyone listen to a rock that does not even have lips. But I do wish you’d stay for it. I’ve been so bored and it’s been so long since I’ve had company.

As you see, my life started of as a tiny particle in what you would call, “nothing”. I got tired and started to swirl around and spun until something sparked, blew up, crashed and kept doing so. I turned dense and decided to hell with it and began making gravity. It’s quite magical, really. But it’s been so long since then. And I don’t miss it one bit. I’ll be damned if I get called back to it. But since then, I’ve been drifting along, minding my own business.

But as many trendsetters, all other pieces that were created couldn’t get enough of gravity. I aim to keep things simple, you see. I actually like floating around and getting pulled by the very force I CREATED. I feel like a pinball in a machine bouncing from one corner to another. Yes, the universe DOES have corners. You’d be surprised.

Where was I? Oh yes. Gravity. No means as odd as it sounds but nonetheless, quite magical. I was there when light came right after and boy was it something. But gravity is a bitch, mind you. It can swallow light as easily as it can spit it out. In fact, I was there even now and was and will be. That’s how I started, didn’t I? How I became and am and was. Time, is after all, just light hitting your senses. Sound doesn’t exist at all, in fact. Oh that was quite complicated to make function. Light was simpler, IS simpler.

Enough about the universe. I know why you’re here. Let me trace you a line. From about a young man who liked to melt my kin and forge them into weapons. To a young dancer who read lights as easily as she would read your palms. And how I came and showed them how to make the best damn plate of potatoes and cheese ever before they discovered cuisine.

What am I? I can be anything you want me to see, or hear. My mouth is a mouth or none at all, but one thing is certain. I speak. I am light in the sky that you can gaze or wish at. But I grant no wishes nor make fortune. Your light and theirs have already past and gone. I am a watcher, infallible though time may seem, whatever the path is has already been travelled. I’m just here for the food.

You don’t believe me!? Let me prove it to you. There are 21 chapters in this story. And the first began and will begin with a boy named...

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.
