Shattered Glass

And so I pick up the pieces

Of what’s left of me

After you shattered me into millions

Upon millions of pieces of fragile, broken glass.

But it’s alright

Because I’ve picked them up before

And I’ll do it again

And again until I’m all right again.

After the fall comes the rebirth

And I am a beautiful peacock

Of broken glass.

Fully whole and wholly me.

There’s a beauty in being

A mosaic of broken glass.

It shows that I’m capable

Of beauty even when broken.

And beautiful I am.

My heart and soul pour

Love and affection and good

Into a sour world.

If it weren’t for me creating

Such joy for myself

Then I’d be left

A broken and shattered mess

Because you throw glass

When you’re mad

But I scream right back

And I fight

’Till all my pieces

Are so scattered

That it takes months

For me to pick up.

Oh, you break glass

But you leave it there

And pretend it’s whole

Even while it lies shattered

And it cuts at your feet

And your hands until they’re bloodied red.

But it’s whole to you

And wholly not your problem.

And so I am a mosaic

Of shattered glass

Covered in your blood

But it’s okay

Because I’ll create

A better picture from all this glass.

The blood has stained me,

This is true

But without you,

I’m free to be the bloodied

Mosaic that is me.

You’re still here

Sure, it’s true.

But a few pieces of bloodied glass

Won’t ruin what’s to come.

It’s part of my beauty now.

And so here I am,

A beautiful mess of blood and glass

And you’re still you without me.

But I’m better off without you. Stained, but beautiful.
