Powerplay

"This book left me speechless for a while, because it just hit all the buttons in my brain to overthink societies powerstructure. And I love that! 5⭐️ This is a story that will make you review the systems of society. The way that the author blends the fictional with the non-fictional of the story is absolutely superb 👏 Don't you just love a book that makes you question everything you know and teaches you things in a way that you can connect dots throughout your own life and choices? If you do, pls don't hesitate to see if this book does that for you. It surely did it for me 😉 The book is just long enough for a great storyline but it never drags through unimportant subject matters. For me this was perfectly a blend of sociology, psychology and politics! The way the power and class differences from our world are reflected in the story is just brilliant. Power is something that you think you own, but do you really own it? If there maybe was one feeling I've missed, it was maybe a bit of romance. The focus was not in a romantic way but more of personal growth. But, I don't know if the book would be better if it was more romanticised, maybe it would not compliment its current strengths! So I can't say it is a fault, more a missing feeling for myself 😉 Thank you author for creating, again, an amazing and mindblowing story ❤️ "

"Miss Siren you are an Author Extrodinair whose craft never disappoints. Another amazing story brilliantly crafted and engaging and totally immersive where I couldn't put down and ended up beginning to end in a couple hrs. Loved it your way with the push pull, twists n turns, your characters, and above all else the way you describe the scenes and we can picture them in the imagination like a film playing, You my dear Miss Siren are an amazingly talented wordsmith and your stories sublime 💜🥰😘💜🔥"

strength in surrender

"A genuinely touching and emotional story. The characters are so real and well placed. The story is full of mystery, personal battle and determination to bring justice. Their dynamic is cold and transactional in the beginning, but a lot more seeps in. I could imagine more detail and spice. On the other hand, I understand that not that is the point. I love her wit and surrender and his cunning and silent support. Perfect ❤️"

Hot!

"Devoured this in one sitting. Blackwood Academy is dripping with atmosphere — gothic, cold, and genuinely unsettling in the best way. The mystery around Leo's death kept me guessing right up until the reveal, and I loved that the scholarship boys felt like a real found family, not just background noise. And it was the best spice! I did not sleep until I finished this

"Okay, I need everyone to understand I read this in one sitting and then stared at my ceiling for twenty minutes afterward. Blackwood Academy is one of those settings that feels like its own character — the moor, the cold, the gargoyles, the whole gothic weight of the place pressing down on every scene. I was fully there. The prose does so much atmospheric heavy lifting without ever feeling like it's padding for time. Wren/Erik is such a compelling lead. I loved that this wasn't written as a "chosen one solves mystery alone" story — she's working with fragments, piecing together things other people hand her or half-reveal, and having to interpret rather than just collect. It felt more like real investigative work than the usual thriller shortcut, and it made her feel competent in a grounded way rather than a movie-genius way. And can we talk about the found family with the scholarship boys?? Chidi, Felix, Tom, Peter, Rajiv, Liam, Marcus — I was NOT expecting to cry over side characters this hard. The boathouse scene where they talk about Leo absolutely wrecked me. That's the emotional core of the book for me honestly, as much as anything else going on. Now. Thorne. Listen — I want to be really clear going in with the content warnings that this book is upfront about what it is. He is not a good man and the book does not pretend otherwise. What got me was how the story keeps that tension alive the whole way through — you're never allowed to fully relax into "this is just a romance," because the coercion is baked into the foundation of everything between them. That's what made it compelling to me rather than off-putting — it reads as an examination of control and dependency rather than a wish-fulfillment romance, even in the moments that are the most charged. Not for every reader, and the content warnings are there for a reason, but if you go in knowing what you're getting, it's genuinely well-executed. The reveal of who actually killed Leo genuinely surprised me — I had my money on the legacy boys the whole time (which I think is the point, the misdirection is doing real work) and the Finch/Vindicated angle recontextualizes basically everything you've read up to that point. Loved that the legacy boys got to be fully human and not just "rich bullies" — Arjun's speech about class and belonging stuck with me. Docking nothing. Immersive, unsettling, atmospheric as hell, and it earns its darkness instead of using it for shock value. Cannot wait to see if this gets a sequel because I have QUESTIONS about where Wren goes from here. "

Smooth read.

"The author has a well thought out tale. The story of the main character finding out what happened to her cousin is strong. This reads like a mystery. I expected from the cover art more BDSM in great detail. It's there... a little. The actual heated interactions with the main character is present but the questions and the situation surrounding finding out what happened to Leo feels larger in this story. If you want light sex that isn't too much on your plate, this book is great for that. It has a lot of twists and turns that involve seeing what happened to her cousin. The writing is well put together. I liked that it was a fast read with swift pacing. It's only 15 chapters so it flies."
