A Touchdown For The Heart
"I just finished reading The Quarterback I Loved, and it turned out to be a delightful sports romance with all the cozy, sentimental charm of a classic hallmark movie with second-chances. The plot was good, focusing on high school sweethearts who eventually break up because of growing apart and poor communication from the male main character, Maxx. Later, fate (Hannah being in labour and Heather being on paid holiday) and football help bring them back together. The narrative flowed beautifully, particularly because the author gave a glimpse into the past from both Alyssa and Maxx’s perspectives. The emotional weight of their initial breakup and the subsequent toll it took on Alyssa was handled with genuine sensitivity. While Alyssa’s parents certainly took a firm stance with that restraining order, it is hard to label them as villains when they were simply looking out for their daughter’s well-being during such a difficult time. That injury showed a different side of Maxx, like the elephant in the room that everyone noticed but no one talked about. I think it should have been discussed more, because players get upset when they're injured and can't play, and there was a lot going on with his PR team and the fact that he was watching his backup almost mess up. That made him seem unlikable. As Alyssa said, Maxx snapped at her, which isn't good, and she was right to ask for space because he wasn't in the right headspace to handle things. Then, finding out he was going to be a dad changed everything and brought him back to reality. The epilogues were the real highlight, serving up a heartwarming conclusion with a proposal in the first epilogue and the birth of their son, all perfectly timed with a Super Bowl victory in the second. Overall, it was a pleasant sports-romance story, and I really enjoyed it. Great job, Stephanie Baughn! I'm looking forward to reading more of your works."

"I just finished reading 'The Quarterback I Loved,' and it felt exactly like curling up with a comforting, made-for-television romantic film, complete with all the sweet potential of a second-chance romance. The history behind their initial split was quite compelling. Four years ago, our leading lady, Alyssa Page, was fiercely independent and bristling at the idea of leaning on Maxx King while he navigated the whirlwind of his rookie NFL season. As we all know, distance is rarely a friend to romance, and the absence of face-to-face conversation turned their relationship into a powder keg. Maxx certainly deserves his share of the blame, particularly for the clumsy way he ended things. Choosing to initiate a breakup in the middle of football practice was not his finest hour; he was far too distracted to handle a conversation of that magnitude, effectively detonating the relationship without giving Alyssa a fair chance to speak. The emotional fallout for Alyssa was truly heartbreaking to witness. While Alyssa’s mother stepped in with a restraining order, which initially seems harsh, it is hard to paint her as the villain. She was simply a mother protecting a daughter who had been pushed to a breaking point, a recovery that was clearly quite arduous. As one might hope for in a story of this nature, the conclusion was delightfully happy. The multi-part epilogue was a wonderful touch, featuring the classic, cinematic flourish of Maxx winning the Super Bowl on the very same day he became a father. While the ending followed a predictable path, it was executed with such charm that it still felt immensely satisfying. My hat goes off to Stephanie Baughn for such a pleasant read. I shall certainly be keeping an eye out for her future work."
