"I was surprised by how much I liked this story, because it's not my usual cup of tea. But Joanna is an incredibly compelling lead, and her dynamic with Alain and their growing relationship definitely keeps you hooked. It's not so much a will-they/won't they as it is a will-she-allow-herself, which is infinitely more interesting. The more technical aspects are kept at a level where even the non-tech savvy individual can understand and enjoy, which is a definite plus. #ICBC"

"Joanna Hoffman stole my attention immediately with her wit and strength of character, as did the author's writing style. Smooth, descriptive writing sets the scene, immersing the reader in rich imagery and profound, at times poetic, prose. We follow Joanna from her early experiences in a startup, and as the story unfolds, we see her lead a team of characters, and with a slow, enduring bond, she falls in love with the everlastingly supportive and wise Alain. All the characters are distinct, unique individuals who feel so real that you feel like you're right there in the office with them, the pirate flag on the wall watching it all, so to speak. IYKYK Joanna's journey through the male-dominated tech arena of the 1980s and 90s, where she made waves and challenged even the likes of Steve Jobs, was truly inspiring. She is someone I had never heard of before, and now this version of her will live on in my mind. The author really did their research on this one and merges a realistic historical fiction with a sweet and enduring romance that blends into one very addictive story. A smooth, enjoyable read with a strong plot, excellent pacing, and perfectly crafted dialogue. #ICBC"
The story of a badass woman
"A great start to this. Joanna Hoffman is a force to be reckoned with. She walks into rooms that are not usually reserved for people like her (aka women), and takes every man in them to task. This is a powerful character whose journey into the world of the personal computer has only begun. The author's technical writing skills are excellent. The story is easy to read, with great descriptive settings and snappy dialogue. Pacing feels right for the first few chapters. I have not yet completed this yet but it's a story I didn't think I'd be interested in, and I'm now interested in it. So, if you're on the fence about reading a tech-forward, historical, dramatized biopic, you should read it. #icbc"
A Woman More People Should Know About
"I went into this story knowing very little about Joanna Hoffman, and I came out wondering how I had never learned more about her before. I loved watching Joanna lead and challenge the brilliant minds around her while helping shape ideas that were far ahead of their time. It was fascinating seeing concepts that were nearly impossible then become technology we now take for granted. This is exactly the kind of historical fiction I enjoy. The kind that entertains me while sending me down a rabbit hoe afterward because I suddenly need to know more about the real person behind the story. I really enjoyed this story! #ICBC"
A well-balanced read
"I have only read three chapters and am looking forward to reading more. I'd never heard of Joanna Hoffman or her history in the tech world and I think it's wonderful and inspiring to see her input and experience in a male-driven industry back in the 80s, brought to life. The story is well written, the characters full of depth and personality and the dialogue witty. It is not a genre I would choose to read but I'm glad I am reading it and learning a little bit of history I would never have known at the same time. #icbc"
Great Premise
"So many things about this book make for a very novel and unique read. The main character is unlike any I have come across, the setting and premise is also very new. Despite being set in a tech context it's easy for someone not into tech to read. The development of the attraction and relationship of Joanna and Alain is also well written. It's nice to see them grow closer. Also, I just had to add as a project manager I really appreciate all the bs corporate themes depicted. Very relatable to anyone who's been in any corporate organization I believe. #icbc"

While the company races to invent the "next big thing," Joanna and Allain serve as the beating heart of the story, proving that any invention is just an empty shell without a soul behind it. Recommendation: I highly recommend this to anyone drawn to stories of personal growth, romance, and the crossroads of technology and humanity. It has enormous heart and might just change your mind about the whole genre!"
Couldn't stop reading!
"*cracks fingers* What if I told you that yesterday I started reading this book and today I have finished it. Does that tell you something? If the answer is: "Yes! It tells me that this is an amazing book which is also super bingeable!", you are not wrong but you miss some points I simply have to make! Plot: It's always scary when dealing with realism as a writer. Now imagine trying to adhear to some actual historical facts while adding in a few personal touches! That, my friend, is exactly what Pi Us did! Not only did they do it but, they did it in a way where, if the internet wasn't a thing, you'd believe every single word! Even as I read almost the entire book in one sitting, I could not find a single loophole! Not one! The general gist of the plot itself is centered around technological advancements and parts of the story of a very famous company, the products of which a lot of people use every day, heck, every minute! (I am not gonna name drop cause I want you to feel the same surprises I did!) There is also a romance subplot going on which ties effortlessly into the rest for those who are interested, aka, me! Characters: Snark, smart, cool, eccentric, you name it! "The reality distortion field" has it! From the FMC Joanne, to the possibly apostle of god (at least when it comes to wisdom and knowing exactly what to say at any given time lol) and still heavily featured Alain, to pretty much everybody (including an interesting surprise character! Shh... it's a secret!) every single one of them has a very unique personality! They all serve a main purpose and frequently take on other minor ones, like comic relief or grounding the rest of the cast! Truly, you couldn't have asked for a better roster! Descriptions: This is definitely the part that stuck with me the most! The author through the use of metaphores and vivid, colorful writing, let's us not only see the scene but, live it! From subtle sounds, to stunning or minimalistic visuals! Sometimes, we can even easily tell exactly what expression a character is "wearing"! I do not feel qualified enough to speak more about this but, all the props to Pi Us! Dialogues: Lastly, and I always find myself talking about this, the dialogues are amazing! I say this again and again cause it's true! I am a sucker for good dialogue and this story checks every box! Smug/snark comebacks? Check! Deep metaphores making sense and making you think? Check! Very realistic for the setting and the characters romance talk? Check! Not much else to add! Read them for yourself! To conclude, if you like the premise, you'd be a fool to not binge this story, let alone give it a chance! Now, for a proper sign off! What I've come to understand is: Sometimes, "losing" is a form of winning. You just might not know it at the time!"

By the end, it is clear that Joanna would not be the person she is without Alain, and vice versa. The company and its computers represent a place that foretells the future—predicting what society will need next and driving humanity toward the "next big thing." The story was well paced and brilliantly told, the characters developed at a pace that was perfect for each of them, and throughout the whole book, I had a thoroughly good time. The contributions of people never heard of before to things we take for granted today is fascinating, and there is not a lost voice I have had more pleasure in hearing than this version of Joanna Hoffman's. I ADORE this book!"

"This story was such a roller coaster. I loved following Joanna through every new idea, impossible deadline, success, betrayal, and fresh start. She kept building things the world wasn’t ready for, losing the battles that seemed to matter, and still finding the strength to begin again. The characters felt real, the dialogue kept the story engaging, and the relationships gave the technological side so much heart. I especially liked how the ending showed that their work wasn’t truly a failure. They may not have received the credit or success they deserved, but their ideas still helped shape the future. I highly recommend reading this story."

It was fascinating to witness the story behind the development of key electronic gadgets. Every meeting and conversation is well-constructed and adds to the plot. Steve is a force to be reckoned with; the interactions between him and Joanna were the most tense moments, leaving you wishing she could break free from his influence and forge her own path. Allain is the heart of the story and the best supporting character. I personally loved that Joanna worked in marketing; it really reminded me of my own time working as a big data analyst."
