"I almost DNF’d after chapter one — it just didn’t click for me at first. But I’m genuinely glad I kept going, because once this story gets its hooks in, it does not let go. At its core, it’s a tragic, gut-punchy tale of love and loss, and that part is done really well. I also loved Anna’s grit and intelligence early on; she felt capable and sharp, not just along for the ride. That said, I wasn’t a fan of the familiar “he’s a monster until suddenly his personality does a 180” turn. It read a little too abrupt for me. I also think this book needs clear content warnings — there’s explicit on-page noncon/rape and pregnancy, and readers deserve a heads-up. Overall: intense, devastating, and highly absorbing — messy in places, but impossible to look away from."
