Really Good Writing and Unique Story

The road less traveled, werewolf style
"My apologies to the author, I forgot to write my review. This is a great book, just under 50 chapters, read it in an afternoon and then reread several chapters over the following weeks. Just a great story, it starts familiar, She Wolves are rare, then one is spotted in an unclaimed area. What happens next is textbook, imagine the early American settlers and the Indians for context. We need to resettle her for her own good, a she wolf can't make her own decisions, we need to find her a mate. Basically helicopter parenting gone mad. No one asks the basic questions, is she happy, does she want a mate? is this the right call? It's always amazed me in shifter tales, especially werewolf tales, that the main deity is female, yet misogyny runs rampant in these stories. The MFC plays a tight game, doesn't allow others to control her, leads her "suitors" through long, involved, tasks to "prove their worthiness as mates" and yet they never understand she's just playing with them. Near the midpoint we learn about her history, how she ended up there, what led to it. It was a really good backstory, it filled in the blanks nicely and brought context to the plot. The author stated early that this would be a two book story, so the lack of a uniformed ending wasn't surprising, I actually loved the way it ended. It answered a couple questions, left others for the next book, and never took itself too seriously. The main characters are well fleshed out, good backstories, believable arcs. I look forward to the next book. "
