Cicatrize: Ugly pasts Book 1
"I'm glad someone finally put out a book that understands the system to this extent. There are way too many children being abused and murdered by parents and, unfortunately, being abused as bad in some foster homes. From the caseworkers having an overload of cases, sad but true, because children are too often abused and constantly have their hands tied, to the state and courts who really think that putting a child back into an abusive home is a good idea. We hold caseworkers accountable, but what about the judges, courts and state officials who allow this to happen. It happened here in Utah. That child Ethan Stacy should have NEVER been sent to his mothers house and he was murdered because of it. When does it end? When does child abuse and rape become a number one issue in our states? This is the exact reason parents do this crap because they can plead insanity or no one really gives a sh** about these kids. Makes me sick to my stomach. Make it a first degree felony and do not allow the insanity defense to be brought to trial and see how many people back off since the system would actually do something about it. I know it won't happen, but one can dream, right? I turned in a family who were abusing their handicapped daughter, whose home was littered in filth, cat feces and laundry piled high, also covered in filth and the state went in, had them clean their home and then dismissed the case and it went back to the same way it was before. I had a friend whose parents basically abandoned her at 3 to fend for herself. The state took away her son until she could learn to be a better parent. I helped her learn how to cook and clean and to properly raise her child and the state went behind her back and adopted him out without even telling her. It wasn't until she went back to court that they had told her, we had also found out that they were giving her five year old son trazadone. I had been on that a few years prior, and let me tell you, it's a very dangerous drug and not recommended for anyone under the age of 18. I also called the cops on some neighbors of mine. Her husband had to have been at least 6 foot 5, maybe 6 foot 6 and his wife was shorter than me, and I'm 5 foot 1. They were outside and he hit her in the face so hard that her glasses flew off and he did it in front of their kids. The cops couldn't do anything about it because she refused to press charges, they moved shortly after that and I still wonder what happened to them until this day and that was 28 years ago. I've seen way too much and also heard stories and seen video interviews while helping my family (3 to be exact) who've worked for the state and the state shelters. The stories would make you cringe and definitely cry. Some definitely broke my heart more than once. I won't put them on here because it's too much. But it seriously breaks my heart when there are caseworkers who care tons about these kids, have seen what they have been through and have fought to keep these abused kids away from their abusive parents and the courts just blow it off and sent these kids back and yet, the caseworkers still seem to get the blame. Don't get me wrong, there are people whi should never be allowed to be caseworkers, but not all caseworkers are the same."

Powerful writing
"The way the author writes makes reading this smooth and flawless. It's an important subject woven into a piece of fiction to help make it relatable and drive it home for people (like me) who have no experience with this concept other than what I've read in news articles. I'm drawn to all the characters, and everything feels very realistic. The writing itself is very well done, and there's just enough description to give the reader a good idea of what we should be imagining. I'm looking forward to what I predict will be a very sweet romance in this. "
Great Concept
"The premise of this book is amazing. A very original idea, having Wyatt fight the system in a realistic, meaningful way. It makes it easier to relate to the characters. Having studied social work at one point and deciding against pursuing it after seeing the failures and loopholes of the system, I am excited to keep reading. Can't wait until you add more chapters. Keep up the great work! "

"I really love what you have so far! Your writing is impeccable and you do an amazing job of describing emotions and making them salient. Your characters are believable (which I find most people don't write teenagers correctly, so good on you for that!) and you also depict struggles with mental illness very well. I struggle with PTSD after a childhood trauma, so I can relate to Wyatt a bit with that and you do a good job of showing how triggers work and the sort of isolated feeling you can have after going through something so horrific. Really amazing job. My only criticism would be is that the story is a little slow. There's not much plot development yet besides the hint of a potential romance between Delilah and Wyatt, which would be really cute. However, I wonder if that's the whole plot of the book? I feel like there has to be something else to really tie everything together because Wyatt's mental struggles is sort of his own character development arc and the romance can certainly be the overarching theme, but I think there needs to be some kind of action point in here so that the book doesn't feel super draining and depressing. Not that I think you need to sugarcoat these points, but it can be hard to read a book where the only plot is him working through his trauma since that's something I'd expect more from a memoir rather than a fiction novel - so I think finding something to really tie in his story with the romance to give a good amount of excitement to the reader would be nice (ex: obstacles they face in their budding romance, confrontation with the police in some kind of legal battle perhaps). I do recognize though that there are only four chapters at the time of this review, so you might already be planning to do this and it just hasn't developed yet. Overall, though, I love this book. Technically, it is superb, and the characters are incredible. Really amazing job, keep up the good work! PS: love the title! I had to look up what that word meant, so thanks for teaching me new vocab! It fits very well with what I've seen from the book so far"
