The start of me
"Annalise, come down here for a moment. We have guests." My mom, Grace shouts from the bottom of the stairs.
I sigh slowly dragging my feet off the comfort of my bed. I don't know why she does this. My mother is a rotten woman who only speaks this kindly when she is up to no good or in a man's presence.
I begrudgingly make way to the mirror in the corner pulling my straight black hair into a high ponytail and tossing off my sweater dress and grab the one mother left on the dresser.
To say it was short was an understatement. My ass nearly out and thighs on full display. The chest was low cut forcing my boobs to show and push up by how tight it was. I hated it! From the hideous dark emerald color to it's tacky shimmer down to it's obvious club wear.
"Annalise! Your being rude come down here!" She shouts again.
Take a deep breath as I leave my safe space and make way to place I call my personal version of hell.
"Oh, Annalise! What are you wearing? You can't keep dressing up like this!" My mother immediately starts with her lies.
"I don't know what you're talking about?" I shrug looking at her coldly.
"I'm so sorry Acer and James. My daughter is her rebellious stage. You know eighteen year olds thinking they know it all." She touches one of the men's arms flirtatiously.
Both men look at me and back to my mom. It's clear the front she's putting on but no one ever cares to stop it.
I take a moment to register both men's faces so next time they come I know who to acknowledge. A regular occurrence for this house, a revolving door of men.
James is very tall and fairly in good shape. His clothes scream I have money from the clear designer tags and the way he made sure to flaunt them as he spoke. His hair a ash grey color in a pompadour style and a five o'clock shadow. His eyes a dark blue and skin a olive tone.
Acer much younger closer to my age maybe a few years older looks not as put together as his dad. His hair a fawn brown with it brushed into a neat bun atop his head. Face well sculpted and eyes take were a breathtaking ocean blue. He was very attractive to say the least from his beauty and his demeanor. He is nicely dressed but not as forward as his dad flaunting their money. A nice black tee with a leather jacket and black jeans.
"Annalise, introduce yourself." My mom pushes me forward.
"It's a pleasure to meet you both. I'm Annalise Rodi, thank you for taking time out of your days to come visit our home." I lower my head before looking up with a fake dainty smile.
"The pleasure is mine dear. I am James, this is my son Acer. We thought it was time for us all to meet since we both decided it be best for our relationship." The older man smiles head over heels at my mother.
I try to hide the disgust in my face and just nod.
"Come boy, say hi."
"Dear why don't we let Annalise take Acer on a tour of our home."
"Of course, a perfect way for them to bond "
I turn to face the boy but before I could speak he just rubs his face over it already. I agree, I completely agree but I can't show it here.
"Let me show you the garden." I smile urging him to follow.
"Okay" a deep voice escapes taking me back.
He follows me for a few minutes with no word until we are away from prying eyes.
"Is she always like that?" He blurts pointing back at the house.
"Ever since her first boyfriend fell for it when I was five." I shrug being honest.
"Damn, that must suck."
"It's either that or hear her scream obscenities at me."
"Same for my pops. Always some sugar baby he has to act all gentlemanly but that man is a bastard. I tell you it's always the same."
"The late nights, people in and out, threats, followed by lying, dating, a break up and start over." I explain my mom mom's life cycle.
"Exactly." He nudges my arm.
I just laugh realizing I finally have someone else to understand me. Finally one other person around who shares the same experience as me and hate as me.
We walk around telling each other stories of our parents dating habits trying to understand how this relationship will work. Neither of us believe their relationship will be more than a few months to a year but never anything else.
"How old are you?" Acer asked.
"Eighteen" I laugh realizing he listened to nothing my mom said.
"I'm eighteen." He answers before i even ask.
"So I was right?" I raise an eyebrow as he pulls his phone out and starts texting.
"About?" He glances up smugly.
"Your age. I guessed when I first saw you I figured we were close in age. Do you go to school?" He looks at me putting his phone back in his pocket just staring.
He takes a while before answering me. His eyes look me up and down almost like he was seeing if i was genuinely asking or if it was a pleasantry. We walk for about five minutes before he breaks the silence.
"I graduate in five months ." He finally speaks coming to a conclusion in his mind i figured.
"Same then I'm running away to study in Greece."
"Ah, a scholar. What are you going to study?" He mocks slightly.
"I got a full ride scholarship to study medicine. I want to become a surgeon one day."
"I plan on opening my own business hopefully and branch out making my own money."
"That's cool." I smile.
"The girls seem to think so." He winks at me.
Great just great a playboy. Damn I thought he was cool so far. That is rather unfortunate.
"Oh" is all i muster to say.
"What?" He turns raising his eyebrow again at me.
"Nothing"
"Your telling me boys don't flock to you for your money? Or for your attention?" He crosses his arms like he knows the answer.
"Oh, they do i just don't care."
"Well I use it to my advantage. If girls want to use me why not use them. I make it clear I don't date so why hide it " I internally roll my eyes at his blanant ego and just shrug it off.
"Cool, I guess." I check out the conversation not caring anymore.
I hear my mom call me after I finish walking him around about fourty minutes later. They all leave including my mom but I refused wanting to stay home. I don't have the mental health to follow them around for no reason. It's a chore and I just can't.
I go back to my room and slip out that hideous dress tossing it into the corner and walk to my bathroom to clean of the days worth or nasty off me.
