Jeanne Scire glaubt nicht an paranormale Phänomene, Okkultismus oder andere magischen Legenden, die nicht mit dem irdischen Leben zu tun haben. Die junge Grundschullehrerin wächst in einer Kleinstadt neben Boston auf und verbringt ihren Sommerurlaub bei ihrer Tante Adelinda in Salem, die dort einen okkulten Kleinladen betreibt, der angeblich magischen Ursprungs ist. Doch im Haus ihrer Muttersschwester passieren merkwürdige Dinge, die sich nicht erklären lassen und das Weltanschauungsbild von Jeanne kommt ins Schwanken. Zu allem Übel verschwindet auch noch Adelinda...
