In the dark sepulcher the man summoned The Shadow. A dead man’s resting place may have seemed odd for a meeting but for one such as this it was quite fitting, and tradition. The dead man was the first ruler of the land, much of which had been lost since his time. The man waited patiently for his acolyte to arrive knowing he would never know until they wanted him to. This would bother him if not for the blood rite. Finally, the fire of the candles flicker announcing the arrival. He had only been there about five minutes and it was unlikely that he was alone for any of that time. The man did not bother to turn around simply lying the picture onto the top of the tomb. “She’s been found.” The silent figure nodded before blending back with the shadows. No flicker of fire to announce their departure but the command had been made and court assassins were not known for their failures.
“I have to call my roommate…let her know I am okay, she will see this on the news.” Gregory was already shaking his head.
“You cannot alert anyone. We must go now.” Gregory looked to Tim, “Are we good?” Tim nodded the all clear and they turned the corner. The trio got no more than ten steps when she turned the corner into the alley.
“Hey there’s…” was all she got out before Gregory thrust her backwards into a side-alley pushing her into the wall hard. It nearly knocked all the air from her body but she was able to speak, albeit strained. “That’s my roommate, Jenna.”
“No, that is the court assassin, sent here to kill you.”
She did not have time to see if Jenna was still in the alleyway and the two men were not sticking around to find out. I guess being a court assassin was a big deal…but this was Jenna. Her best friend and roommate. And assassin…
