The storyteller

I don’t consider myself as a poet

I just write some words on pieces of paper

and I am not a musician

because I never learn to play the guitar

and please don’t call an author

I never could have a best seller

but if you want to call me something

just call me a storyteller

I am not a teacher

I was never good at arithmetic

and I am not an actor

although some said I’m a little too dramatic

and please don’t think I’m rich

because I don’t own a house with a wine cellar

but if you want to call me something

just call me a story teller

yeah I like to tell all kind stories

from all different sides of life

some are humorous and some are funny

and some can cut your heart like a knife

and don't think that I am someone famous

because me and the camera never really click

although my last name is “Ishmael”

and is in the great novel Moby dick

I am from the island of Trinidad and Tobago

a fact that I so proudly claim

land of the humming bird, scarlet ibis

the pitch lake, beaches and sugar cane

and I was never a very smart person

I leave school when I was only seven

and I don’t believe in religion

just be a good person and you will go to heaven

I like to take walks on the sand

And in mayaro beach one time I saw a shark

And I like to look up at stars

And see how they twinkles in the dark

And when I am standing outside

I like to see small planes with propellers

so if you want to call me something

then just call me a story teller

I like to play cricket and football

With the boys back in 2nd street

And after we will be drinking some cold beers

And cooking a pot of something to eat

And I like to write about my boyhood days

From la romain, Indian trail and marabella

And tales I heard from my grandmother

Who was the greatset story tellerr
