The concept of a group of friends who get together and share stories has a delightful sense of nostalgia, and each of the stories themselves are intriguing. There are some grammatical errors throughout, but overall the stories were very enjoyable. The ending leaves the reader curious as to what other tales the midnight club will come up with."
Unique Short Stories that are Great for Ray Bradbury Fans
"This is such an excellent collection. The preface is such a lovely idea and so childlike and wonderful in tone. I love that this is a collection of stories that children are reading from a mysterious story book in the woods. It makes everything seem so fantastical. But the stories are not childlike in tone they’re quite intense and serious. Most characters face desperate situations and sometimes they don’t make it out. There’s a constant threat of death. That’s what keeps the tension up and makes these stories so exciting. I like that the author isn’t afraid to write endings where not everything works out for the characters and they don’t get what they want (in some cases they don’t even survive). It reminds me a lot of the stories in Ray Bradbury’s Illustrated Man and The Martian Chronicles. "

"I really love the concept of this story, and the first chapter is very strong. There are a lot of grammatical issues that do, in some cases, take away from the story so proof reading is necessary - but the overall style despite that is really engaging! I think one thing that could improve the plot is reconnecting to the original group every once in a while. How did they react to these stories? What do they think? is there anything spooky going on as they tell these stories (as in, are they in their own little horror story?) - I think that would really make this stronger and give more of a thread to follow through the whole thing rather than it being a compilation of disconnected pieces. Overall, though, excellent job, and great idea!"
