Poetry is a bloody hand,
reaching into the heart of the writer
to gut out their walls of numbness
and retrieve the naked words
they haven’t been able to express.
Poetry is the melody your soul
cries along to, and while you thought
you were alone in humming it,
someone related to your vulnerability
and picked up the tune of the next line.
