Chapter 1
As she sat there on the edge of the cliff, she started thinking on how she had a much simpler life than the one she leads now. Before everything had come to be, she was just a simple girl with a simple life. Or so she thought she was… To completely understand her story, we’ll start from the beginning.
Luna was just a normal kid growing up, just playing outside with the kids in the neighborhood and having birthday parties and sleepovers. Even though her life was completely normal, things started to change once she started going into her teen years.
By the age of thirteen, her sense of smell started to heighten. No one thought this was peculiar because they just thought she was growing more advanced than the other children. After that, every year each of her other senses heightened.
Touch for her fourteenth, hearing for her fifteenth, taste for her sixteenth, it should be noted that ever since her sixteenth she had cravings for some abnormal foods. And finally, for her seventeenth birthday she acquired a heightened sense of sight, which is when she finally started to notice that none of this was normal.
One night when she was out partying with a group of friends, she noticed some things about her senses that really started to take light. When her and her friends started playing hide and seek in the woods, Luna could see perfectly clear when it was pitch black. Not only that, but she could also smell her friends.
She could smell the path that they took by the cologne and perfume that they wore. Luna even noticed that her friend Derek had scraped his leg on a rock. And she could smell the blood as though she had her nose right in it. This scared her so much that she freaked out the entire time and she just had to make up an excuse to leave the party early.
After she left the party, Luna was so freaked out that when she went home, she started to look up everything that came into her head. She looked up whether or not it was normal for people to have heightened senses, and if it was normal to be able to see in the dark and smell blood as though it was in her nose.
After hours of researching, she finally started looking into mythical creatures and urban myths. What she came up with was so frightening for her to process that she wasn’t able to sleep at all that night. The next day she went to school like if nothing ever happened.
It was homecoming week and Luna wanted her crush, Noah, to ask her to the homecoming dance. While Luna and her friends were eating lunch, that’s when something out of a movie happened for her.
A romantic song came on and suddenly there were balloons and roses everywhere. And then there was Noah, standing there, hazel eyes with auburn hair, which is basically exactly what Luna wanted her dream guy to look like, with a poster board saying, “Will you give me the honor of going to homecoming with me?”
Of course, Luna didn’t even hesitate to say yes and for the rest of the day she had this gushing smile on her face and her cheeks were as red as roses.
Even though her friends were making fun of how she looked, she didn’t care, she was just happy that it had finally happened. The rest of the week went by in a flash, and it was homecoming night.
Luna could barely contain her excitement, and neither could her friends. Stacey asked, “So... after Luna and Noah stop gushing and being all lovey dovey or whatever with each other, what are we going to do afterwards, like are we going to have an after party or what?”
“We are not going to be gushing and lovey dovey with each other.” Said Luna with an eye roll. “Whatever you say Luna.” Laughed Emma. After what had seemed like an eternity, they were finally ready to go. Little did Luna know that she was in for a huge surprise when they arrived…
