Chapter 1
The soft breeze of the cold winter winds blew my feathers a mess. The little bumps under my tight uniform made me realize how much i was freezing. I sighed as i stood up. The roof of the castle was the highest point out there and gave you all the loneliness you ever desire. With tired eyes and wobbly steps i walked over to the opening that gives you the choice to fly down or take the stairs. My wings were still sore from the training the last few days and so were my legs. I sighed again as i opened the little flap door that lead to the stairs. With my wings placed close to my body i walked down the old cracked stairs that made a sharp noise every time i stepped on it. When i finally reached the floor i needed to, i hesitated. Weak voices not louder than a whisper carried by a soft breeze were mumbling. My hand put on my sword that hanged on the left side of my uniform , since i was left handed , i tread carefully making sure not to be heard by anyone. Although we have had lessons on sneaking in the training, i messed up by banging the end of my sword onto the wooden ground that was covered with ugly carpet no one in my dorm liked. But the highness did, and so we must too. The voices stopped that instant and i didn’t dare to move a muscle , too scared to be found. “Did you hear that ?” The voice whispered and judging by the tone of it i assumed it to be a woman about the age of twenty. “I did. What was that ?” I hid under the window tray hearing nothing but the heavy banging of my heart in my chest giving me the feeling that i might throw up. I didn't move an inch. Not until i heard steps walking away from me and shutting a door. What ever that was i wasn’t supposed to listen.
I took a deep breath and crawled out of the tiny area i was hiding in, realizing only now how scrunched up i must look after being in that dusty place. With slow Hand gestures i patted some of the dust off my black uniform that was slick and tight on my body. The highness liked to see weather we were trained enough or not , so she made us wear these bodysuits to judge our amount of muscle. Most of us didn't have enough for her likings . I was one of the many that got trained extra too look like a clump of hard stone. But it was what we must do. So we did.
When i finally arrived at the door that had the number 9 on it i almost sighed in relief thinking about the warm and welcoming bed awaiting me right after i had taken a hot shower to loosen up my wings. The feathers were messy and chaotic from the heavy wind that blew over the kingdom today and my arms and legs were covered in goosebumps that were as stubborn as the scar that ran over my right shoulder and just wouldn’t go away. I opened the grand wooden door to find my room in a complete mess. My eyes widened with anger when i realized I got searched. Then i spotted a girl my age leaning face first out the big window that every dorm room had. “What do you think you are doing here ?” I pounded in frustration. “I was only making sure you weren’t trained to death.” Said she. My eyes shrunk to slits. “And checking up on someone you haven't even been in the same room with makes you have to look around a room like that, messing up every inch of its belongings?” I whispered coldly through my teeth. Its not been the first time I've been through this. People judging me for my wing color. But i was fine with it as i grew to know how to handle it. “No really. I was only checking up on you.” She finally leaned back in so i could see who i was talking with. A girl with blond hair like in the tales they told us when we were kids. Those about a princess that got saved by a slayer , a human with wings. Every part of her face screamed of a perfectly exampled girl. Though her wings were neatly combed down and she looked tidied up and healthy, she still looked a bit off. I couldn’t quite figure out why she did , not even as i swung my eyes over her whole body. “Fine. Now that you have completed your duty , you must leave.” I said wishing to know at least her level in the academic leveling we get when we train. “I mustn’t” she said softly, almost as if she tried to talk someone to sleep or to calm someone down. “I demand it. Out if my dorm”i asked and walked towards her. She blinked and curled her hair using her finger. “ fine, but i need you to give me back what has belonged to me before you stole it.” She said with a sharp voice that could have easily cut through paper if voices could. “And what makes you think i stole your personal belonging?” I asked as i made the distant between us smaller. Then i saw what made her look off. Unlike all the other slayers that were here , she didn't carry a weapon. I checked again and even made sure to look at places she might have slit in a knife or so. But not even a throw star was in reach of her. “You know it better. I order you to give it back” she took a step back as i launched towards her with my tiered legs that could barely hold my weight. “I only take orders from the highness. “ i said and made sure to have my hand on my sword , just in case. Even though we were only to fight if we were involved in a battle that you could involve anyone into , i wasn't sure if she would stand by that rule. Even someone that has not an inch of a weapon can be dangerous.
“Alright. I will leave. But don't make me ask you to give it back again.” She smiled at me as if we would have been best friends since we've known how to walk. I blew away a strain if hair that dangled between both of my eyes. “Or i will take it by force.” She finished the sentence from before. I was still searching my memory of taking anything that might have belonged to her , though i still couldn’t find anything.
“Its your choice” she said calmly before turning her back to me. What level was she ? Turning your back at someone that could attack or generally anyone was one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Although i wasn’t fierce enough to stab her with my sword , i couldn’t believe she would do that. Then the dark green mark on her black uniform caught my eye. The sign of a mentor. Thousands of questions swiped my mind empty. How could she be a mentor at this young of age , and why would she wonder in and tell me nonsense like that ?
As she walked off , closing the door behind herself with a warm smile i couldn’t stop myself but gasp at the closed door. Did she perhaps steal that uniform?
My curiosity made me want to swing open the door and chase after her. But soon enough i found out that the big and grand wooden door of my dorm was locked.
