The Prisoner

He was high in the sky as the city behind him burned. His eyes glowing red with the laser in his eyes ready to burn some more. He shot it scorching the very earth he defended.

Was he angry ? Had he turned on us ? Where was all this coming from?

I stood in the middle of the burning street my eyes looking up to him, tears burning my eyes as they streamed down my cheeks. Then he turned to me. The look he gave me terrified me he had murder written on his face.

"You!" He snarled and pointed at me and the glow in his eyes came to life and the two of beams of light came at me.

I woke up startled, a cold sweat running down my back as I breathed hard, that wasn’t the first time. I had that dream countless times and each time Orc is always attacking the city of Aor, burning it to the ground.

“The dream again ? ” Amra asked me, well clearly the answer was on my face. What was it ? A vision ? A message from the past or future? That had been our mystery to solve for the past few months.

“Yeah except this time it was more detailed,” I told her putting on my linen vest and my plasma proof vest.

“Was he burning down Aor ? ”

I had told her the dream time and again. She felt like she had dreamt it again and again.

"If you sleeping beauties are done we are supposed to start this in T-minus two minutes," Zeck told us standing outside. We were in the middle of the Adet woods. This is the future welcome to 2116 this is exactly one hundred and sixteen years after the meteor crashed on the earth surface forever changing our lives and the planet surface. The first few fifty years were a mess but we finally figured stuff out and we built the future, space travel, cures to diseases that came with the meteor , technology....basically we had a utopia. That all fell when the great leader Titan Orc died. Then he took over.

“Cargo truck leaves at dawn,” which was seven hours away. The element of surprise was our only weapon.

Zeck was pointing at the board with his plastic pointer, he moved a few pucks to left of the board showing the plan to attack.

A hover truck was passing through the jungle of Ada. Word had gotten out and more than twenty rebel groups were waiting for the cargo. We had an inside man so we were ahead of them by so many steps.

What did I miss ? Well.....

Well there’s the fact that we are under the tyranny of a villainous man known as General Zred.

What else?

Before him there were good people and all. We had the Orc who defended the new earth. See earth took some damage when that meteorite landed. Earth was never the same we lost what you'd call continents. Half of the planet was submerged and few places were habitable.

Am I missing anything?

Oh! Nearly ten percent of the population has superpowers.

That’s just it.

“This is a four man job! ” I looked at Zeck with a smirk. He looked away shyly with a smile. Silly boy.

“Grunge like the plan!” Meet my best friend Grunge. He’s a gorilla. Well let’s say he’s the last remaining gorilla in the new world. When we found him he was in danger of being the last dead one.

General Zred has been determined to ending whatever remained of the past world. Well he was doing it well.

I enhanced Grunge’s speech and ability to think and discern things around him. Yep he was my little experiment.

“Of course you do. You get to smash !” He beat his chest using his fists and roared. He still liked his gorilla ways. I gave him a rub on his tummy. Your ordinary gorilla doesn't carry around an ax with full body amour and an awesome helmet. Amra finally joined us. She was still adjusting her vests. She always was a clumsy dresser, falling all over the place. “Drones ready ? ” Zeck asked. Amra looked at him with a touch of confusion.

“One minute!” She said running to the equipment center.

Amra always forgot things, like her duties.

The tents went down, after the hit we’d make they’d scout the jungle till they found us.

“And Trixa ,” Zeck called to me ,” no going kamikaze.”

A splash of water hit his face, I was not going to entertain his teasing!

I am Trixa , hydro-kinetic enhanced. Yeah that is all about me.

"Get back to Roburg, half the team stays back here just incase thing go sideways,"Zeck gave instructions to someone.

Zred was a powerful human being and that made him a danger especially if he got to us. Armed with telepathic and telekinetic abilities he was pretty much a risk factor to the mission if he got to us quick enough. I had never seen him but a few rebels who make it back sometimes end up becoming suicidal or they die after an encounter,by suicide. How he never found Fort Roburg was a miracle I was trying to understand.

"Paranoid much ?" I asked as I did some searches. It wasn't necessary but I normally did this to tease him. My suit was kinda tight in some area. Me and him had this casual relationship nothing too serious since we warriors weren't allowed to have partners till a certain age. Yeah no this is not a story of people fighting for their love and shit.

"This is GZ I am not taking any risks if he finds us."

GZ like he was his bestfriend or something,“you know he won’t, each time you bring me on a mission we always win!” Not like Zeck has ever failed.

“Keep the pride up. We totally need this jinxed by your overconfidence,” another splash of water . I wasn’t going to take sarcasm.

“Keep that negative pessimistic attitude up and we may have to rescue you !”

He formed illusions around him as Amra’s drones took their positions.

**********************************************************

I made my way through the jungle floor, hoping not to make a single mistake. I could see the cargo truck a short distance away. The EMP had worked surprisingly. They were attempting to find what exactly the problem was. That was where our precious cargo was.

Zeck signaled me with two fingers to move forward.

“You do realize you can talk. We are next to each other!” He touched his face disappointed.

“Take left and I’ll take right,” we were in a protective force field bubble created by none other but him. He of course knew it was sound proof.

I charged up my plasma blaster. Once Zeck opened the field I was out showering them with plasma and putting down some people. Someone wasn’t down, I shot him and he didn’t flinch. The armor on him was making him invincible or he...….

“Great!” I said as he stood there. Another Enhanced. He grabbed hold of my neck and lifted me off the ground. A kick and a bubble of water to drown him was my best idea. The kick worked but the water part backfired big time. The helmet he wore made it possible for him to breathe underwater or in water( position doesn’t matter if he was in water!)

He grabbed my shoulder and threw me against a tree.

Pain surged through me as I tried to sit up.

“Grunge help!” With a punch he sent the man flying into a formation that was supposed to protect the truck. It’s 2116 why did they still have wheels. Everything in Aor hovered and the best way to transport something precious was by wheels and also moving a threat.

The kick worked but the water part backfired big time. The helmet he wore made it possible for him to breathe underwater or in water( position doesn’t matter if he was in water!) plus I only made a small bubble for his head.

They stopped because the truck that had wheels, had an issue caused by us of course Inconvenience ltd . It’s 2116 why did they still have wheels. Gunfire had already erupted, but I was too preoccupied to register it. The distraction proved effective; the soldiers seemed bewildered, unsure of their targets amidst the chaos. I was crawling away under the crossfire. I made it to the cargo truck without encountering any resistance. I opened the back and lo! Behold before me laid our prize, nothing. The truck was empty.

"Trix!" Amra called to me running. She pointed to the sky, I looked and there it was a hover bike and three more carrying a container, this was a distraction. They knew we were coming!

I had to make a jump, I did but not strong enough. I thrust myself up with a splash of water. Well that worked well at least.

I was hanging onto the side of the container. I struggled up and stood on the side hanging onto it for my dear life. The hover bike riders hadn't noticed me so I was safe. I had a laser pen with and hence I sliced a huge hole, I was probably almost twenty feet above ground. I am not sure what caught their attention because plasma beams were fired at me. Then something happened, we were falling really fast. In that moment, I found myself unable to command the water. Then, a brilliant flash of azure blue light pierced through my vision.

Meet Bretta, yep that was a person. His teleportation abilities came in handy when he was not pretending to accidentally show up in women's bathrooms.

He had already taken out the guards for me.

"Didn't know you were the wildcard Zeck talked about." I yelled to him.

"Nah! I just stuck around, the EMP was the card," he said pushing his red hair back from his face.

I kicked down the part I cut out. I walked in to find what seemed to be a pod. It was glass but all tinted. I couldn't see what it held. I took wild guesses. An atom bomb ? Who'd drop that on Aor?

"You need an invite ? Teleport in there!"

"It only works with places I have seen or have in my mind ," he said sashaying his long red ponytail.

"Have you tried going up your ass?"

He didn't like that, I knelt down to the door's control panel. The security trigger system had been so meticulously crafted to ensure that any attempt to tamper with it would automatically go back to headquarters. I had to try though, the plasma firing outside didn't help.

I keenly observed the wiring, I found a loophole, hanging out with Amra made me ,automatically, an electrical engineer. If the wrong wire was cut then we'd all be in chains headed to Aor.

I slowly began cutting the wires that would trigger a brute interference.

"Didn't the EMP short everything out ?" Bretta asked. Idiotic question, I thought. Aor had though of everything they including magnetic coverings to protect motherboards and anything running of electricity. A red light came to life above the pod, I'd need authentication to ensure the message got back. Bretta was already on it, he teleported and was back with a soldier. He put his hand on a scanner and swoosh! The pod breathed releasing a human being. We both let him fall to the floor and I looked in the atom bomb.

"Holy shit that's Cax!"

"What is a Cax ?"

"Leader of the AORR, Alliance Of Regions Rebels," he told me picking him. That was lazy naming. Picking the city name and adding rebels to it. I peeked outside and the team was retreating,

"Trix!Ice em!" Amra yelled to me.

"Gladly!" I whispered and sent a punch to the ground and a terrifying crawling frost crept up to each soldier. They were all trapped in a blanket of freeze.

"Again what is this thing ?" I asked referring to Cax. I couldn't understand why mission control had sent us to save a person, they had insisted that our survival was based on how we secluded ourselves from other groups. Yet here we were.

"Question is why we're sent to save him," Zeck said as he scanned him. The pods would be arriving any second and we weren't sure if he was in a state to travel.

"Well if hes important to the Aor government then he's important to us. Hostage or asset," Amra said.

"I'd go with asset there luv, I have info that will help us turn the tide of this revolution," he had a funny accent. He attempted to stand up but immediately fell on Zeck. They managed to stagger on to a rock. Cax looked completely disoriented and even the slightest light seemed to bother him, as Zeck examined him.

"Suspended animation, I was like that for at least a year or so," he told me when he caught me staring,"don't worry I am hotter than this."

All I could do was scoff, the pods arrived and I jumped in first I needed this to end as quick as possible.

AOR

"Sir, forces have confirmed the capture of Cax, how shall we respond?"

The man seated at the desk just smirked, he touched his gray beard and turned his throne like chair. He opened his mouth to speak only to be interrupted.

"Your popularity has dropped, the polls say."

A small hovering gadget almost the size of a footstool interrupted the meeting. The Orc"s creation. Al, he was an advanced artificial intelligence. The only reason it was still around was because he needed to crack it.

"Oh and Cax got away."
