Chapter 1

'Bye Kitty! have a great day at college!' Her mother called out.

'Bye mom, bye dad!' She said as she walked away. Kitty walked to her college, she was 17 and has been attending for about a year now. There weren't many students in her class, only about 15-20 people, so it was quite small, and Kitty liked it like that, she didn't like people crowding around her. She didn't live far from the college either, so not too long of a distance to travel, also perfect for Kitty. Her life was quite simple, nothing too grand, just like everyone else here, just the way Kitty liked it, she likes a lot of things here.

She continued walking, greeting some of the people she knew, getting closer and closer to the college. When she walked in she went straight to the classroom she spends most of her time in, that being art class. Paint was splashed across every last inch of the room, pencil scratches were etched across the walls and Kitty traced her fingers across the rough lines of pen marks from small doodles along the table as she walked to her seat, the smell of all the materials such as clay and ink filled the air with quiet chatter happening amongst friends. She pulled out her chair, sitting next to her friend, and placed her bag on the floor, taking her sketchbook and materials out of it. As she begins to scratch images onto the paper her friend starts to talk to her.

'Heya, how's your morning been?' He asked.

'It's been pretty good, not much has happened though' Kitty responded, 'how about you Ash?'

'Same as always.' He said back.

They continued to have a conversation between themselves all throughout the time they were at class while simultaneously focusing on their work. When the sunlight began to fade from view outside the window the class ended and the students left to go home. Ash and Kitty parted ways saying farewell to each other. As Kitty was walking past the wooded area she typically walks by she noticed an injured animal, she walked up to it to see if she could help but it ran into the woods. Kitty let out a sigh and turned to leave but as she did the animal let out a cry and looked directly at her, this was really unsettling to her but she started to walk back towards the animal, although she wasn't sure it was even considered one. As she did this the animal stopped the horrific shrieks and continued on, picking up speed as it went. Kitty ran as fast as she could to not lose sight of it among the greenery of the woods, but her hand got caught on a thorny bush and she stopped running to tend to that, losing the animal in the process, but no wailing was heard. She removed her hand from the bush and took a closer look at it, 'nothing too serious just a few small scratches' she said aloud to herself. She then noticed something glimmering under the bush, being curious she grabbed it and picked it up, not too long after doing so she dropped it and stared in horror when she realised what it was. A hatchet. Covered in blood too.

'Ah you found it' A voice said behind her. She stood, frozen in fear as she heard footsteps slowly approach the leaves crunching underneath this person as they walked. As they got closer a million thoughts were rushing through Kitty's head as to who this could be, a police officer, a random person, or worse, a murderer. A hand was placed on Kitty's shoulder and she somehow tensed up even more. 'Say, what are you going out here anyways? C'mon, don't be shy.' Kitty's throat had run dry, she opened her mouth but only croaking came out. 'No need to be scared, I won't hurt you.' Those words would be reassuring, if Kitty didn't think she heard them mutter 'yet' under their breath. Finally she was able to say something, not much, but it was something.

'I...was following an animal'

'An animal huh? Ok then.' The person then moved forward and picked up the hatchet. Kitty could now see this was no police officer so that was off the list. As they raised the hatchet to eye level Kitty was screaming at herself to do something. Run! But she couldn't move, she tried to at least move her finger, and...it moved?! This was progress, she began moving her fingers, one by one as this mystery person examined and cleaned their hatchet. Finally, Kitty was able to move her legs. She calmed herself, controlled her breathing, then, she ran. She ran as fast as she could, not looking back, she couldn't hear anyone following her so she took that as a good sign. What happened next seemed to happened so quickly she couldn't even realise what what happening. A tall, slender figured appeared in front of her out of nowhere. She had no time to slow down and crashed into this figure and fell into a heap on the ground. She begun to feel dizzy. No, she had to keep going...but her head hurt so much. Her mind was racing when suddenly the figure disappeared just as quickly as he has appeared then her dizziness ceased. She rapidly got onto her feet again and looked behind her. No one in sight, good. She then walked slightly faster than she would normally walk because she was scared but out of breath so couldn't run. She saw the light of streetlamps and began to wonder what time it was. She checked her watch and noticed it was already 7pm.

'What the-How the hell did it get this late so soon?' Kitty asked herself. She began to walk a bit faster, thinking of lies she could tell as an excuse as to why she's so late home. She then remembered about her hand, she looked at it and saw the scratches were already healing. Of course they were they were only small.

Soon she finally reached home. Kitty reached out to the door handle, opening the door and braced for what was to come.
