The Prologue
“Hey! Thief!”
A cloaked dragonet skittered away from a shouting shopkeeper,
She clutched the roasted lizards she had stolen to her chest and kept her head down as she hurried through the crowd of other dragons. She risked looking over her shoulder to see if she was being chased, letting out a faint breath of relief nobody had noticed her moving away from the hollering dragon.
She dipped into a different area to keep safe, looking around to scan the different booths lining the Scorpion Den. She went to the part where the booths thinned out and took flight back to her den, mentally checking off her daily to-dos.
Find Mr.Stick? Check, he was around her neck.
Go through the market? Check, she just did that.
Check the magic scroll. Er... She still needed to do that, she had put it off until she had returned from the market.
Landing in front of her mismatched house, she walked inside, letting Mr.Stick slither down her leg and disappear to wherever he went every time she let him out.
She set her lizards down on a wooded table and walked over to her bed, sticking her talons under it to pull out the scroll. She tugged and struggled to get it out, letting out a breath she hadn’t known she was holding when she finally got it free.
She opened it up and started moving it to the end, the magic scroll was more of an infinite scroll of some sort, she had found it on the ground of the market and had grabbed it before she knew what it was. And every day since it had begun growing in size, it really didn’t take too long for her to realize it predicted the future. Afterward, she had taken full advantage of this knowledge, using it to predict things like snowstorms, market rotations, and other things.
Just as expected, a new drawing was sprawled across the scroll. A dragon was shrouded in darkness, hiding everything but their head which was looking up at the sky, where five dragons were drawn in, approaching the woods that the shaded dragon was in.
She blinked, staring at the new drawing in the scroll. What could it mean? She didn’t get predictions like this one before, it was normally things related to her.
Things related to ME
She felt her stomach sinking as the realization hit her. This was related to HER. She had to watch for these dragons, for her sake or for the rest of Phyrria’s.
