Chapter 1
I sat at the Hades table with Will as everyone ate peacefully. I was eating lasagna and Will was eating a pot roast when he rested his left hand on my knee. I smiled a little. How did I get so lucky? We’ve been dating for four years now and I couldn’t be happier. I love Will with my whole heart. He’s my light in the dark.
“Nico?” I was snapped out of my thoughts by Will’s voice. “Are you okay? You zoned out while eating,” he asked as he laced his fingers with mine.
I blushed, smiling. “I’m fine, just thinking about you,” Will nodded and smiled. “So do you want to dance with me?” I looked around and saw some couples dancing inside the square of tables. Will peered at me expectantly.
I gave a small smile and nodded, laughing as he shot up from his seat and dragged me to the center of the pavilion. Will rested one hand on my waist and held my hand in his other. I placed my free hand on Will’s shoulder as we began to slow dance. The music playing was slow in tempo, calm and relaxing. I rested my head on Will’s chest.
He was a solid 6’ 3” while I was 5’ 10” so it was nice to embrace him. Will rested his chin on top of my head as I closed my eyes and sighed contently. We danced for the rest of the song before it changed to an instrumental cover of an Italian lullabye.
“Are your eyes closed?” Will whispered as he let go of my hand and waist. I nodded, keeping them closed for some odd reason.
Will didn’t say anything for a minute before I heard a whisper to open my eyes. I opened my eyes and immediately looked at Will. He was down on one knee, holding a small velvet box. I gasped as Will smiled at me, tears pricking the corners of my eyes.
Will opened the box to reveal a black engagement ring with a skull diamond on it.
“Nico, we’ve been together for four years now, and those years have been the best of my life. I can’t imagine life without you. I want to fall asleep and wake up with you, start a family… I want to be with you.” Will sucked in a breath.
“So Nico, will you marry me?” I nodded and Will removed the ring from the box, slipping it onto my left hand. The dam finally broke as I hugged Will, sobbing into his shoulder . He rubbed circles on my back while clapping and cheering erupted around us. I pulled my face away from Will’s shoulder and smiled at him.
“I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you too Will,” I replied as we shared a sweet kiss.
