An Unexpected Visitor
Darius Kendrick, or DK as he is fondly called, is a bank manager with a reputable bank. He lives in a rented apartment along with his family, which is on the ninth floor.
DK has a beautiful and doting wife, Madeline.
They have two kids, a boy and a girl named Caleb and Priscilla, respectively.
----- Opening Scene -----
Time is 11:04 AM, Saturday
DK: “Madeline, is the breakfast ready? I am getting late to office.”
Madeline: “Isn’t it a weekend? I thought you would be staying at home”
DK: “Relax...It’s overtime. It’s paid.”
Madeline: “I know. You always say that and escape to the office on weekends. Don’t we deserve your time?”
DK: “Yeah! I have heard that before.”
Madeline: “And how long are we going to put up with a rented place, DK?”
DK: “That is why the overtime, dear. So we can soon have our own little nest :)”
Madeline: “Yeah! All your excuses and stuff. It’s been nine years since I’ve been listening to your stories.”
DK: “Chill, my love. What’s for breakfast?”
Madeline: “Your favorite! Bread toast and fruit punch.”
DK: (Hugs Madeline) “That’s lovely! What would I do without you?”
As they are hugging, someone slips through the open door.
The couple sense someone’s presence. They look up and see a man panting and sweating profusely, staring at them. He seems panicked!
Madeline: “Who are you? How did you get in?”
The man doesn’t say anything. He continues staring at them with horror.
DK: “Who are you? What’s your name? Are you okay?”
The man murmurs in a trembling voice: “Look, if it’s a joke, then it’s a very bad joke.”
DK: “Joke? What do you mean? Are you in your senses?”
Just as they are talking, Caleb and Priscilla come out of their room and run towards the man shouting ”Candy Man! Candy Man!"
Madeline immediately intervenes and screams “Caleb! Priscilla! Don’t go near that man! Come to me honey!”
As soon as the man hears names of the kids, he gets absolutely petrified and almost collapses with horror.
Somehow picks himself up and scampers out and down towards the ground floor.
DK immediately follows him, but by then the man has disappeared.
They all get scared. Madeline asks the kids how they know that person.
Kids say that only a few minutes ago when they were playing on the ground floor, they accidentally ran into this man. He however, behaved very politely and asked the kids if they were okay. He then offered them some candies to which they refused.
Madeline gets very worried and pleads with DK to look out for another place to move into.
DK gets worried too and decides to stay back at home for rest of the day to comfort his family after this incident.
