The Dating Drought
Emma had been single for what felt like forever. Her last relationship had ended over a year ago, and since then, she had been on a string of bad dates, with no luck in sight. She had tried everything - going to bars, joining clubs, even asking friends to set her up - but nothing seemed to work. Emma was starting to lose hope that she would ever find true love.
One day, Emma’s friend Sarah suggested that she try online dating. “It’s the 21st century, Emma,” Sarah said. “Everyone’s doing it! You might actually find someone decent on there.”
Emma was skeptical. She had heard horror stories about online dating - the fake profiles, the creeps, the endless swiping - but Sarah seemed so convinced that Emma decided to give it a try.
She downloaded a dating app and started swiping. At first, it was kind of fun - she liked the thrill of matching with someone and the excitement of waiting for a message. But after a few days, it started to feel like a chore. She was getting matched with all the wrong guys - guys who were only interested in hooking up, guys who lived too far away, guys who were just plain weird.
Emma was about to give up when she got a message from a guy named Jack. His profile was simple - just a few photos and a short bio - but there was something about him that intrigued her. They started chatting, and Emma was surprised at how easy it was to talk to him. They had a lot in common, and Jack seemed genuinely interested in getting to know her.
As they chatted more and more, Emma started to feel a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, Jack could be the one.
