Chapter 1

Opening eyes in the world where people live in the constant fear of a door. A door that connects two opposite worlds.

Legends says that what's behind that portal is much worse than any human can think of. A line of succession has been coming from ages to protect this world, it's people.

Being born to this family is considered a blessing but for me it always has been a curse. Yes, I'm amongst the 8 successors. The leaders who will build and manage the army against evil when the time comes.

"Yeong-Ja!!" My best friend Ara shouted your name from the other side of the road making me stop in my tracks. A bright smile plastered over her face making my eyes soften.

"Finally caught you!" She said, wrapping her arm around mine as we both walked towards the college.

"Seriously?!" My eyes travelled across the campus as students were going wild and it was not even afternoon yet!

The crowd which was cheering and playing around went silent as soon as the students started spotting me.

I'm famous for having a cold personality. The one who won't hesitate to put people into their places. No one messed with me and it was best for them to maintain their distance around me.

Though I never hurt anyone without any solid reasoning, this serious and strange persona of mine scared everyone around.

My one glance was enough to frighten anyone even if I just made eye contact because I was looking around.

Entering the History class I sat on the window seat, Ara joined me while I got lost admiring the view of mountains from the classroom.

"The only reason I come to this class" I mumbled, gaining a humming response from Ara. She got busy completing the assignment Mr.Choi assigned yesterday letting me be me for a while.

In no time students filled up the classroom and the professor also arrived on dot.

"Today we will be learning about the succession of The FATE HEROS" Mr.Choi announced, putting his bag on the table.

Poking my inner cheek I felt annoyed with today's topic but in contrast everyone looked so into learning about my line.

No one in this college let alone in this city knew I was amongst the youngest 8 fate successors. Ara and Jay were the only exceptions.

"It all started in 867 AD when a boy named Lee, found a portal 1500 miles away from the village he lived in. In the curiosity of finding out what's hidden behind this portal he forgot about the life he had back in the village.

Devoting his time to find a way so the portal could be open he neglected his family. One night as he was solving the clues, his eyes shined brighter as he jumped in excitement finally cracking the code.

Putting the puzzles together, he managed to open the mysterious portal. The portal revealed the world of darkness bringing its evilness into this world which was not good news for humankind....."

As the lecture continued I dozed off, the more I tried to be disconnected from my ancestors, the more I was hearing about them.

"Professor, is it true that they gain power from the birth symbol they have on their bodies!" One of the students asked as Mr.Choi nodded.

He explained how everyone coming from the "Fate family" is born with a unique symbol.

"What if one has more than one symbol?" I glared at Ara as she gave me a look before looking back at the professor.

"Well Miss. Ara that's a great question, There have been only 5 successors throughout the centuries who did have more than one birth symbol and they were known to be the strongest ones.

Though since the 1850s no one in the "fate family" was born with more than one symbol. But it is rumoured that the daughter of Min Kwan, who comes from the line of first fate heroes in the world, is born with more than one symbol" Rolling my eyes I wanted to bang my head on the wall.

"Yeah sure the daughter is sitting right beside me!" Ara whispered, making me sigh. As soon as the lecture ended I grabbed my bag walking out of the class towards the rooftop.

"Yeah Yeong-Ja, why are you so angry?" Ara sat beside me, Looking at the sky, recalling the last incident I had before escaping the castle and living a different life far away in the city.

I reminded myself why I left that life behind.

"Y/N it's been 9 years since you've left your parents and that life, do you think it was for the best?" Ara broke the silence. I chuckled hearing her words

"The parents who never had time for me, let alone compared me with all the other kids just because it took me a lot of time and practice to gain control over my strength.

They never treated me like a kid, I was just another showcase for the world." Pouring my heart out I closed my eyes.

"If you hate that world so much and don't want to be related to it then why do I see you always practising your powers?" Taking a deep breath I looked at Ara.

"Because I know if one day that portal opens, the people will need me. The people who have put their trust and think of us as their protectors. I don't want to let them down!" Feeling warmth I hugged back as Ara traced her fingers over your back.

"And people call you a beast here!" We both chuckled knowing it's not their fault when I look like I will eat them alive.

"If the portal opens, I'm sure you will never let us down." With a faint smile I looked up at the sky mumbling the words "I hope so too!" As if I was assuring myself but the fear shined through my eyes, doubting myself.

My dad's words echoed through my mind "You're so useless Y/N, your presence brings nothing but shame to our family." Will you ever be able to forgive them and prove them wrong.
