Silence
The silence in the middle of the night is the only time I don’t feel terrorized by the pack or my Alpha, who is a vicious male. How could any Alpha be so heinous as he abuses me and allows the pack to also? How could my life have taken such a turn like this? As the tears streamed down my cheeks, knowing this pitiful life was the only thing I had.
I want to have a happy life, mates, and a family. I know who am I to even dream such a thing considering I am only an omega. I am a glorified house servant for the pack, do this, do that. I sighed, knowing my life would never change unless I did something drastic, but what could I do?
I began racking my mind wondering what options I truly have in this life, what I can control seriously. I can feel my body trembling from the chill in the air; it’s not like they gave me an insulated room. I got a storage room they had previously used, so they didn’t care if it was cold.
I finally laid down and pulled my blanket over me, pulling my thin body in on itself, hoping it would keep some of my warmth in. It is cold outside tonight, and the last thing I need is to get sick or get hyperthermia in this room. Yes, my walls are bare; they are wood slats with no sheetrock covering them. They had planned on insulating this room at one time, then decided against it.
Lucky me. As I attempted to pull my trembling body closer together under the blanket, I heard my door begin to creak open. My heart began to race as the surge of fear ran through me like a lightning strike. I thought the Alpha had already gone to bed; I heard him enter his room earlier. Please no. I thought.
That is when something I never expected happened. I felt something heavy being draped over my body as a soft growl had come out moments ago; I am guessing at what whoever saw.
“You need to stay warm, Serena; I hope this helps; I can’t take seeing them abuse you. Every time I try to intervene, I am dragged away by my father or his beta. Please know I am here, and I will try to help you for more reasons than one.” The voice I know well said.
The voice belonged to Caleb; he was six-five with short black hair and the most beautiful emerald green eyes. Not that I could ever bring myself to tell him that. As he spoke, I knew I needed to remain quiet, not knowing what to expect. Did he mean what he said? Can I trust him?
Questions ran wild within my mind as I tried to think my body had other ideas as I passed into slumber from the warmth of what I am assuming is a blanket that he placed over me. The warmth felt amazing; I am not used to that for sure. I knew I had to hide whatever he placed on me, or the Alpha would take it away if he saw it.
With a yawn, I opened my eyes to see the sunlight streaming through my small window and realized I had overslept. This is not good in the least! I jumped up as I crawled off the mattress, smiling as I noticed the thick quilt Caleb had placed over me. Wait a minute, this is Caleb’s quilt from his own bed. I would know, considering I make his bed for him. There is no way I could possibly keep this and let him go without a blanket. I sighed, knowing I needed to do the right thing regardless of how much I wanted to keep it.
His scent was thick on it, and it helped calm me once it covered me, and his scent filled my senses. Sigh, why me? I thought. I climbed out of bed, folded his blanket neatly, then scurried to grab something to wear. I grabbed an old pair of jeans and a T-shirt I had. No, they weren’t new or without holes, but it was something.
What do you think the omega gets nice clothes? Ha, that is a funny notion. No such luck, we get the bare minimum, and even that isn’t even normal enough to remain warm or fed, for that matter. Well, not in this pack, anyways. This is the White Peak pack, and Alpha Kane is full of hatred. He has always treated me poorly and much worse than any other omega. I never knew why, though. Did I do something wrong? I had wondered that to myself a million times.
As I was dressed, I pulled my hair up and ran from the room, taking the quilt with me and quickly stopping at Caleb’s room, placing it on his bed. Quickly running down the stairs towards the kitchen because Sandy and I had kitchen duty this morning.
I entered the kitchen, seeing Sandy already beginning the breakfast.
“I am sorry, Sandy, that I overslept. You didn’t get in trouble, did you?” I asked her.
“I didn’t get in trouble, but the Alpha left a message for you. Once breakfast is served and cleaned up, he wants you to see him in his office.” She replied with her voice full of worry.
We worked and got everything ready for breakfast and placed it on fancy serving platters as we began bringing them into the dining room and setting them on the table. The pack surrounded the tables, looking straight at me as if they wanted to kill me where I stood. I took a deep breath and kept my eyes down, not looking into any of the packs. I would surely pay for that.
I returned to the kitchen and gathered up more platters carrying them to the table as everyone began to eat their fill of what we had prepared. Well, everyone except the Alpha and us, apparently. I am sure he will go off at me for that; I wonder what he will do to punish me this time. I will bring him a plate of food in case he wants to eat, and hopefully, that will calm him down some.
Ya, right. Who am I kidding? It seemed like everyone ate quickly, and we cleaned up the kitchen and dishes as I took a shuttered breath, knowing what would come next. I have to see the Alpha!
