Prologue

(1660-1934) Before the birth of Kiba

The Okami used to reside in the deep forests of Honshu, Japan. The Okami also were predators to humans, and often hunted wandering humans after nightfall. After multiple reports of missing children and adults near the east coast, many soldiers were sent to investigate these causes, and many rumors started to spread, people trying to explain that they saw wolves that stood on two legs, standing at 6 feet tall...at least. Many soldiers began to go missing as well. This does sound very brutal, but the food chain begs to differ. And due to the electrical energy the Okami could produce, they could incinerate a corpse without leaving any traces. Once the Okami ‘den’ (A large system of living quarters underground) was discovered, the suspicions of the people were now confirmed. These beast-men really did exist. Assuming these beasts to be the cause of the missing people, the hunt for the beasts began. Any report of a “Werewolf” would send panic through the Japanese villages, and the tales of bloodthirsty beast-men began to spread. “I saw it with my own two eyes, I’m telling you they are real!” was not a very uncommon phrase in Japan. Many Okami were slain, yet a few managed to escape to the forest, and hid for centuries. But then, an intellectual Okami wolf, Ancestor to the main branch, Learned the art of Jinsei. His Name was Sojiro Okami(1680-1713), and his goals lay beyond what any could imagine, he truly is a prodigy, and is still known and renowned by the Okami family to this day. Jinsei allowed them to transform their appearance, yet Kiba himself does not have enough control over his power at the time to try and figure it out without exploding into electric rage. Once the hunt died down, they started a village, and started working to restore their tribe from there. Sojiro Okami III(1906-1946) was crowned head of the clan, and he had the same ideals as The first Sojiro, and so he saw spending time with Kiba and Kenjirou, or his wife as a waste of time. To Sojiro, it was simple. Kill. Protect. Survive. Around 1933, He had an affair with someone that he was sent on a contract with, but due to his caution, he could not let the child be born outside of the village- he couldn’t let the world know they were still alive. (1934)Kiba is born, and his potential was recognized as soon as his father first laid eyes on him. But what filled his heart wasn’t pride or joy... it was a deep fear and resent for himself. “This power could be shaped.... into our shield- Or the sword that cuts us down.” “Due away with him, lock him away from the outside. This boy... no... this beast- is not a risk I am willing to take.” “Yes, father...” Kenjirou replied to his father, planning to do just the opposite. Kenjirou was not like his father, he was willing to take risks, because he recognized that Kiba was a person too, his family. He swore he would protect him till he died- even though Kenjirou wasn’t the strongest warrior... And so, Kenjirou was Kiba’s father figure, and Kiba had no mother figure until he was eight, and Kenjirou had finally gotten himself... a girlfriend. This is how Kiba’s adoptive child Masako was born, but neither Him or Masako know this. Kiba simply found her, and decided she reminded him of his late big brother. Kiba was raised with love, yet strictly. Kenjirou taught him manners, to clean, basic combat, and helped him learn to use his electrical energy. After Kenjirou thought Kiba was going to be alright, he decided it was time to send Kiba to school. If it went good, then that is what he hoped for. If it went bad, he was confident Kiba was already stronger than any other members of the family... maybe even his father. Kenjirou did not care though. he was going to break this shield of fear the Okami have built up. He was going to pursue one goal: Give his brother a chance at a normal life or take down his tribe with him.

kitkatbar29: So this first book in this series I liked. A good plot that flowed well for the most part with some twists along the way, good well developed characters... there are a few technical mistakes, but nothing to harsh. I must say toward the end of the book there were some issues with like a quick change ...

Bloodlines

lblomme: I always love a story where good overcomes evil. The sad start, the growth, and ultimate strength of the main character was well done. The story never lagged and ultimately delivered a happy ending even for characters who were less than stellar. Well done!

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.
