Chapter 1: Newcomer

Ivy's Pov

The first rodeo on this years pro circuit and my first time having a shot at the pro's. Wish me luck ;-)

All rodeo grounds pretty much look the same but the pro circuit rodeo's come with an extra wow factor it's the big time after all.

I take my spot at the side of the shoot ready for my event to start, I watch the other competitors in awe I mean this is really the best of the best.

Focus Ivy I tell myself as soon as I see the time on the clock it's the last run for my event. My run.

"Up next is a newcomer to the pro-circuit but don’t let that fool you this little cowgirl has been winning buckles all over the country. Yep you heard that right I said cowgirl. Up next is Ivy Bartlett all the way from the Rocky Mountains Montana and that last name ring any bells? You guessed Ivy is the granddaughter of legendary bull rider, all around cowboy and hall of famer Jack Bartlett. This is gonna be one hell of a ride if she has that same magic her grandad had. Tonight Ivy is riding Menace a nasty bull for the most experienced of riders, good luck Ivy” I hear the announcer over the crowd.

As soon as i'm settled in the shoot and I'm ready I give a small nod for the gate to be opened. And I swear time stops for those 8 seconds i'm on the back of a bull. It's pure serenrity for me plain and simple, it's like I was born for these 8 seconds every single time.

Problem is most people try to fight against the bulls movements. I don't, I lean into them. I was told before watching me ride a bull is like poetry in motion and honestly it feels like it.

Before I know it my 8 seconds are up and i'm being pulled off the bull. Time resumes and I can hear the crowd faintly around me as I stare at the score board waiting for mine to be announced.

"Well folks looks like Ivy does have that Bartlett magic with a 92 putting her at the top of the score board. Congratulations Miss Bartlett you'll definetley be giving these boys a run for thier money." The annoucer says over the crowd.

As soon as my score is announced I hear the crowd get louder some people louder than others and I don't need to guess who it is. Mia Conolly, Barell racer and one of my closest friends as well as some of the other barell racers.

Mia and I met at a rodeo a few years back when we were 12 , back then I was also all about barell racing until I turned 17 and got the bull riding bug. I swear nothing compares. Now we're 21 both qualified for the pro's. God I wish she lived closer.

Anyway a 92? At my first Pro rodeo? Me at the top of the score board? Grampa is gonna freak out hell I am.

I start making my way towards the group of girls when I spot the other competitors from my event the ones I just beat at first place, all standing together looking at me flabbergasted.

"That's how it's done boys." I say with a smirk and carry on walking past them.

As soon as I reach the group of girls i'm met with congratulations, atta girls and pats on the shoulder as they all disband leaving me and my best friend alone.

"Ivy omg that was your best ride yet!" The curly red head that is my best friend exclaims. I grin in response. "Jack here?" She questions.

"Always work to be done at the ranch, wouldn't want him driving all this way either. He'll definitley be at the ones closer to home though." I explain.

Mia nods in response before asking "You heading straight on the road?"

"Yeah it's a bitch of a drive back to Montana. I'll see you next weekend." I explain and start walking towards my truck.

"Of course be careful on the road Ivy it's already dark out."

I wave my hand over my shoulder in response continuing the walk to my truck, entering my trailer to put my gear down and remove my protective vest before slipping my hat back on and exiting double checking to make sure the doors locked and it's properly secured to the tailgate before climbing into the cab of my truck and heading out onto the highway.
