A different high-school-story
"This novel takes you into the world of a Ghanaian elite boarding school, following a senior year student who tries to concentrate on her studies, but well... Things get in the way... And other people of course... I love it, when authors immerse me into their world, helping me learn a lot and confront my own biases and internalised racism. And that is what the author of this novel does very very well and with a great writing style. She unapologetically uses Ghanaian food names and colloquaialisms as well as local abbreviations. That makes it harder to dive into the story at first, but then: who would explain common abbreviations in American highschools or even think they might need explanation? So it took me a while to get into the story, but it is well worth it! "
Really liking the story so far!
"Nana Ami seems like a great character so far. Although she claims to be direct and not care about other's opinions, it's shown that she's a great friend to those she cares about, and deep down does crave to be a part of a group. I'm really liking all of the references to real world celebrities and media, it adds a level of realism to the text. Only note I would give is to maybe explain the acronyms and terminology. For instance I had no idea what Dbees were, except through context I assumed it was an insult and she was being teased. Other than that a really nice story!"

"I'm glad Nana got the chance to be happy. In Our society black people are criticised and considered lowly by others. So, it's great you gave someone like her a great life. "
