Chapter 1
Amelia looked up at the dark and ominous clouds that had engulfed the whole sky in a complete darkness and were ready to shower ruthless rain on the world. The thunder roared in the sky and gave a few seconds of light in their wake.
Anyone could tell a severe storm was brewing. And in no minute the whole world will get hit with a ruthless storm drenching everyone who comes in their contact.
A water dropped on Amelia’s forehead. Her eyes blank as she tries to reason what she saw minutes ago in the party and whatever she saw was reality and not her mind playing games just like how it played when he left her. Because she had forgotten his face. She has forgotten the texture, the curves, the slopes of his face. She believed that she would not recognise him even if he passed by her in a crowded place. He would be like a stranger to her. But how wrong she was. It took her a few seconds to recognise his face.
She was not ready for this. She never was and this incident was proof of that. She had gotten accustomed to her life but now it is ruined just because of his one glimpse.
Her body tensed up when she felt his eyes on her. She can never forget the sensation of his gaze. Her stomach turning and churning in a knot. She gulped down the knot that had formed in her neck.
His gaze had always given butterflies in her belly in the past but now all she could feel was some heaviness, hate and mostly hurt.
Another water dropped on her cheek and in no minute sharp water drops started falling on her. She closed her eyes as she let herself get drenched under the shower.
“You will get sick.”
Instantly her heart quivered in pain as soon as her ear took on his gruff voice amidst the ruthless rain. She clenched her palm in a fist. Her body tensed up when she felt him behind her.
Her body became aware of his presence behind her as his body emitted a very familiar warmth. Her body could recognise that warmth even after so many years. How traitorious of her body as it remembers the person who gave her the most pain.
She was second away from leaning into him and that thought only welled up more tears in her eyes. Even if he was the one that induced the most pain, her body still wants to lean on him as if he is her safe zone.
Really habits can be hard to leave. And it’s her habit to lean on him whenever he is close to her. It was always her clinging to him.
“Let’s go otherwise you really will get sick.”
A shiver ran down her spine when his warm breath tickled the top of her head. She folded her arms in front of her chest and tried to make her feel safe. She hated acting this way. She should just behave as if she doesn’t know who he is.
And who is she kidding? She really didn’t know the real him all those months. It was all a facade just like his care for her. It was all a lie just like his lov–
Amelia clenched her forearm tightly.
He never professed his love. It was always her. Then how did her stupid heart believe that he did?
She smiled with tears brewing in her eyes. A melancholy smile. How calmly he is talking to her. There is no quiver, no awkwardness, no sadness in his voice, there is nothing. It’s as if they were normal.
She swiveled and looked at him. His broad chest cladded in a drenched white shirt and coat.
And unknowingly she got a sudden memory of the tattoo on his chest as she had made him get a tattoo forcefully even though he hated the name of tattoos. But his chest was bare and more tears bubbled in her eyes. But she controlled as she looked up with that smile still intact on her face.
“What about the sickness that I have gone through for the last 3 years?”
Instantly the rain started falling so hard that the visibility dropped. But they still held each other’s eye contact. One had pain while the other was emotionless.
“Let’s break up.” Amelia asserted without any remorse. She was hungry and wanted to get done with this so she could go back to her friend and have some food.
Roman cupped Amelia’s shoulders abruptly, shocked by her sudden statement. “What do you mean by breakup? It has just been one week since we started dating. And now you are breaking up. Did I do something wrong? If yes, please tell me so I can redeem my mistake.”
Amelia sighed. “You didn’t do anything. It’s just I don’t like you anymore.” Amelia pointed out. She really doesn’t blame him. It’s her that loses interest faster than one loses interest in clothes.
Roman frowned. “How?” He asked. She is the same girl that chased him for weeks to get in relationship with him and now suddenly she has lost interest. Is the rumor about her that she loses interest as soon as she gets those things true? If it is then he got played.
“I don’t know.” Amelia replied truthfully. “I just suddenly don’t like you anymore.” She pushed away his hand from her shoulders. “Then I am leaving.” Amelia swiveled.
Roman just looked at her back in shock. “You should have thought that before getting into a relationship with me, damn it.” Roman shouted, angry. “You should never have persisted in getting me to get into a relationship. Was it so easy to lose interest?”
Amelia huffs. It’s not her fault she lost interest. She did like him very much when he wasn’t hers but now that she has him her interest has vanished in thin air.
She turns. She predicted to find him angry but he was more angry than she expected him to be.
“I used to like you but now I don’t. I can’t be with you if I don’t like you. So let’s move on. We can be friends.” Amelia said, calmly. It is better to part ways instead of being in a relationship which is not backed up by any emotion.
Amelia’s calm poise was irritating Roman. He was damn angry.
He grits out. “I wish the way you disregard my emotions like it was nothing, the same way your emotions will be disregarded by the person whom you will love dearly.”
“If that will curb your anger then so be it. I am sorry.” With that Amelia turns and leaves without any hesitation. Roman’s eyes teared up. He had really started liking her, but she is such a heart breaker and he wishes that someone will break her heart just like how she had broken tons of hearts.
“Am.” Luna, Amelia’s friend, called her. Amelia turned. She waved back and made a run towards Luna.
“Thankgod, you are here. I am damn hungry.” Amelia expressed. She grabbed Luna’s hand and started pulling her towards the cafeteria. “You know, I broke up with Roman.”
“It was inevitable.” Luna replied, not at all surprised. Luna is friends with Amelia since their first day in college and from the last two years she has come to know the real Amelia. And according to Luna, Amelia is someone whose interest changes faster than someone’s mood.
While they were on their way to the cafeteria an announcement from the principal halts them and everyone in campus as the principal’s voice booms from the speakers.
“Dear students, please assemble in the auditorium in the next five minutes. Attendance is compulsory. If you are not present your marks will be deducted.”
On that almost all students groaned in annoyance. Amelia and Luna were no different. With slumped shoulders everyone ambled towards the auditorium.
“Do you have a chocobar?” Amelia asked Luna. Luna nodded her head and gave her the energy bar. Amelia and Luna took the very last seats.
The Dean of the college came and started his lecture about some famous painter which Amelia very gladly tuned out.
“If this is about some painter then why are we students majoring in finance forced to attend this?” Luna asked. “This should only be for art major students.”
Amelia slips down more on her chair and closes her eyes. “Tell me about it.” Amelia replied. “When this will be over, wake me up.”
“Okay.”
Amelia dozed off but only minutes ago she jerked up in alert when she heard Luna cursing.
“Fuck.”
“What happened, dude?” Amelia asked alert. She found Luna’s wide eyes looking ahead. Even the girl beside Luna had her eyes wide as she looked ahead. Amelia straightened up and looked ahead with a hint of anticipation and curiosity.
Amelia froze. There stood the most handsome man that she has ever come across.
With olive skin, ebony hair and 12′o click beard and sharp jaw line he looked nothing more than a model. His build dominated Dean’s 5′8" height. His figure adorns a white shirt with black stripes and torn faded jeans and a white sneakers.
“Who is he?” Amelia asked. His voice was hoarse and manly and it sent shivers down Amelia’s spine as he blabbered something.
“He is the famous painter Agastya Singhania. He is here for three months and will be conducting classes for two days in a week. He is freaking handsome, don’t you think so?” Luna answered.
Amelia whispered his name to try it on her lips. “Agastya Singhania.” His name rolled out of her lips and it felt odd. It was an Indian name.
She kept gazing at him. His dark pink lips moved elegantly as he talked. Her eyes followed him as he moved away giving space to Dean to talk and he sat back. Amelia muted out everything as she kept gazing at the man.
“I want him.” Amelia whispered. No one heard her but the promise in her voice was prominent.
This was the start of Amelia’s doom.
Let’s see how Amelia dooms up her life and how she falls for the first time in her life. And let’s see how she cops up with her first love as you all know first love always hurts.
