What is your opinion?

Lots of romance and a little bit of evil

""Promise?" is a engrossing tale that seamlessly weaves together elements of fantasy horror and romance, leaving readers spellbound and craving for more. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the boundless ocean, the story ensnares its audience with a plot that tantalizes the imagination. The narrative excels in its ability to paint vivid pictures of the setting, transporting readers to a world where the crashing waves and salty breeze become palpable. The author's meticulous attention to detail effortlessly brings the ocean to life, evoking a sense of awe and wonder. With each turn of the page, I found myself immersed in the captivating beauty of this maritime realm. While the plot unveils an enthralling adventure, it leaves me yearning for a more in-depth exploration of Marcus, the enigmatic demon. Although his role is integral to the story, a more elaborate background of this nefarious force would have added an extra layer of intrigue and depth. I longed to delve into the intricacies of the evil forces and the abyssal depths of hell from which Marcus emerged. Such additional details could have further enriched the narrative, providing a richer context for the unfolding events. What truly shines in "Promise?" is the portrayal of relationships, particularly the one between Madison and her loyal group of friends. The author masterfully captures the dynamics of their camaraderie, highlighting the bonds forged through shared experiences and unwavering support. Each character is distinct and memorable, enhancing the narrative with their unique quirks and qualities. Through their interactions, the story resonates with authenticity, reminding us of the profound impact friendships can have in times of adversity. The most poignant relationship depicted in this tale is undeniably the bond between Madison and her grandfather. Their connection is a delicate thread that weaves warmth, tenderness, and wisdom throughout the story. The author delicately crafts scenes of heartfelt conversations and cherished moments, skillfully portraying the unconditional love between grandparent and grandchild. These touching moments serve as a testament to the power of familial ties, evoking emotions that tug at the heartstrings. And at the heart of it all lies the crown jewel of "Promise?": the alluring romance that blossoms between Madison and Kyle Ash, the demon hunter. Their relationship is an exquisite dance between platonic devotion and subtle longing. The author deftly navigates the complexities of their connection, intertwining moments of profound friendship with hints of an unspoken desire. This magnetic chemistry between the two protagonists adds an extra layer of depth and tension to the story, making each encounter a tantalizing delight to behold. "Promise?" is a beautifully crafted tale that leaves a lasting impression. Despite its flaw of glossing over certain details regarding Marcus and the realm of evil forces, it thrives in its ability to transport readers to an enchanting oceanic world. The tapestry of relationships intricately woven throughout the narrative, particularly the bond between Madison and her friends, as well as her grandfather, is a testament to the author's skill in portraying human connections. And of course, the romance that blooms between Madison and Kyle Ash is the jewel in the crown, a mesmerizing blend of friendship and desire. With its captivating story and vivid imagery, "Promise?" is an unmissable journey into the realms of love and adventure."

Promise? Has lots of promise

"It really does. I loved the blurb and the story that the first chapter teases ahead. This is a very ambitious tale. Great for fans of Supernatural. That would be a good comp. I really like that it starts off with a very exciting first chapter and the inciting event happens right off the bat. No time is wasted here. I really liked the opening descriptions and how the author uses environmental details to give backstory on the characters. And the foreshadowing at the beginning with the ominous dreams and the granddad’s warnings gave the story a welcome sense of tension. There were some typos and the villain’s dialogue was a little cheesy, but otherwise I really liked the opening of this story. I do wish the main character had been a little less of a “damsel in distress” but maybe she becomes brave and learns to fight the demon later. I guess I’ll have to keep reading to find out!"

Chapter 1

"The expositional summary foretells what the story’s about, a vicious conflict indeed! Let’s see what shenanigans these couples got themselves in... Ch1 I like how watercolors and sketches adorn Madison’s room, showing her work. How you mention waves also helps induce auditory description, creating lifelike storytelling. Although your descriptions begin rather wordy, later on they get tighter. After breakfast with cryptic grandpa, Madison meets an elder. Although narration mentions she talks about being abducted by aliens, she doesn’t actually talk of alien abduction. You could--for example--use dialogue for Jenkins to mention an alien abduction, then Madison’s dialogue complaining about that. This would depict the story verbally, which is often more proactive than exposition, but it’s your call! Newspapers---a hint that the story takes place during former times? An example of environmental storytelling. Just friends, honest! People just run up to Madison all the time? She’s a people magnet! Pizza! Napkins! Age-old struggles! Bad boss! And...more pizzas! From coffee to seawater to pizza, you remember to use smells in your narration, helping keep narration lifelike. Little did Tony know, the demon was here...to devour all his pizza until none remain, spreading such eternal doom none shall escape. All may suffer for eternity without pizza. Oh, wait, nvm... Fortunately, the demon talks about what he’s supposed to do rather than doing it, and even lets Madison go. What a guy! Kyle deals with Marcus, but Madison flees, so we don't see what happens. Marcus probably got a pizza to the face with such force he was hurled into another dimension! She tumbles; that's why you don't run during nighttime, you blithering fool! Oh, here’s Kyle again, that was fast. Madison is definitely a people magnet, now that takes genuine skill. He carries the unconscious hero home, what a nice fellow. Good thing he knew where she lived. Madison is quickly complicit to the new situation, alluding to her heeding of Grandpa’s precautions. He doesn’t seem to be here for now, though. OK, chapter 1's done, that’s all for tonight. Kyle seems to have done a good job, because I don’t see any demons nearby here, either."
