Prologue

“Would you like something to drink?” The officer spoke, raising an eyebrow as he looked at the bloodied girl in front of him; cuffed to the chair. When no reaction was given, he huffed and sauntered out of the room, the door closing quietly behind him.

Eyes peered down at trembling, bloody hands, tainted with evil. She raised them up to the light to inspect how dried the blood had gotten, not surprised to find them still wet and metallic smelling.

The girl jolted when the door closed again as the officer had walked in. Looking up at him, she had gulped when he placed a cup of water in front of her.

“Can you please tell me what happened, now?”

“They’re…they’re dead. All of them. Dead.” Her hoarse voice had spoken, the cuts around her throat contracting with every word spoken.

“How?” He spoke with genuine interest, picking up the pen and adjusting his notepad to start taking notes.

Biting her tongue, the girl closed her eyes momentarily before opening them slowly to stare at the officer across the table from her. She opened her mouth to speak, “They, uh, they saw…things that I couldn’t see. All three of them. I mean I thought I did…but then it was, it was just gone.”

“Well, it was just the four of you. We checked the house, no one was there. Who else could’ve murdered your friends?” The question hung in the air as the girl ran her tongue across her teeth.

“IT WASN’T MURDER! There’s something, something evil in that damn house and it killed my friends.” She slammed her free hand down on the metal table, leaving a bloody hand print in its waking.

“There was nothing in the house other than the bodies! The house is clean! It’s you that’s not.” The officer had bellowed back at her, the pen in his grip pinching the skin on his palm.

Laughter filled the air, creating an eerie chill in the room. It didn’t stop. She flung her head back and laughed harder; the cuts reopening with the swift movement. Her throat contracted with every breath she had sucked in to allow her to crackle harder. And then, it stopped. It was quiet and the girl moved her head forward, staring at the officer in front of her.

“Nothing about that house is clean. It’s evil. And it MURDERED MY FUCKING FRIENDS!” She shouted at him and stood up, the cuffs jingling at the movement and blood dripping off of the ends of her hair. “Let. Me. Leave. You don’t know anything!”

The officer inhaled through his nose before staring at the girl. “Tell me what happened.” He spoke, leaning back in his chair.

Clenching her jaw, she sat back down before opening her mouth once again, “It started after graduation.”

Gracia: I like the fact that the novel is not overly sexualized enough to make me cringe. Their is however a dose of romance.Would recommend this to friends who like mythical creatures.
